In this initial project, it will be important to demonstrate the possibility of manufacturing high-purity silicon from desert sand and constructing a high-temperature superconducting, long-distance, DC power supply system. The aim is to achieve a solar plant with annual capacity of at least 100 GW, which would truly help to solve the world's energy problem.

Initially, the battery is filled with freshwater and a small electric current is applied to charge it up. The freshwater is then drained and replaced with seawater. Because seawater is salty, containing 60 to 100 times more ions than freshwater, it increases the electrical potential, or voltage, between the two electrodes. That makes it possible to reap far more electricity than the amount used to charge the battery.

28 April 2014 The New York Governor Andrew M. Cuomo has agreed to expand NY-Sun's initiative throughout the state with around $1bn (€723m) in incentives for new solar power projects. Mildura Solar Power Station is a concentrating photovoltaic (CPV) project being built in Carwrap, south of Mildura in the state of Victoria, Australia.
