The K9 is the first pure-electric bus designed by BYD and produced independently at BYD's Changsha-based Bus manufacturing site.

The eco-friendly bus designed for Namsan travel measures 11.05 meters in length. It can travel at up to 100 kilometers an hour and traverse a distance of 83 kilometers with a full charge. The vehicle can be fully recharged in 30 minutes.

A growing number of people who have had a chance to ride on the buses have posted photos and comments on the electric buses on blogs and SNS services such as Twitter on their own. As a result, the city said Namsan Electric Buses have generated a desire to experience them first-hand among people planning to visit Namsan.

The bus is fitted with an electric-motor hybrid system powered by batteries and fuel cells, and is fueled with high-pressure hydrogen gas. During operation, the vehicle does not emit carbon dioxide, said to be a cause of global warming, or any other atmospheric pollutant such as nitrogen oxide; it is both highly energy-efficient and very quiet.
