hy would I use a medium such as Twitter when I can Google what I am looking for?

Twitter is where I discover what I don’t know. Google is where I search for answers to an known problem

oogling info works well when you know what you want. Twitter can provide you value you didn’t know you wanted.

I am less and less convinced that adults will be able to fundamentally change how school is done.

The thinking has changed

We are part of an environment filled with respect, creativity, collaboration, connecting, thinking, learning, and one of CHANGE.

And so we develop ourselves. On blogs. On Twitter. Throughout the PLN. We have used the opportunity of the tools at our disposal to engage in an older and vastly more satisfying form of professional development than the mandatory in-service.

We've developed a relationship with development. We are engaging with our growth and our communal experience in an open, social, and mutually beneficial way.

Nobody even bothers to ask the question Seymour Papert first posed 45 years ago, “Does the child program the computer or does the computer program the child?” This is a tragedy.

Today one merely has to promise 75 quick and easy things to do in 37 minutes with the hottest product being peddled to schools. Another popular topic is incessantly about how your colleagues won’t or can’t use the latest fad.

PLN, PLC, PLP, etc… are just fancy alphabet soup for having someone to talk with. We should not need an National Science Foundation grant to make friends.

No longer is newsletters, calendar of events, e-mails and other one-way communication enough for schools. Great school communities inspire great conversations.

“Everything I blog also shows up on Facebook, Twitter, School Website, and Google Plus – it’s not hard to have things post simultaneously.” Remember, a hardcopy is still necessary for some families.

It is important to diversify your PLN. Put people around you who cause you to think differently. People who are straightforward and willing to connect in uncomfortable conversations. Those who say what they mean and mean what they say
