Panaji: In a strong indicator of Goa's strength in the information technology sector, web and product development startup, DCCPER (pronounced deeper), is seriously deliberating an expansion into the Central American and Scandinavian region in the near future.

"PANJIM, AUG 6 Chief Minister Digambar Kamat on Thursday stated that the government would make all efforts to get the Rajiv Gandhi IT Habitat at Dona Paula started so that Information Technology (IT) professionals can get job placements in the State itself. The chief minister made the statement while speaking on the Goa Appropriation Bill (No 3), 2009 (Goa budget) in the Goa Assembly on Thursday. �I will hold a dialogue with all stakeholders of the Rajiv Gandhi IT Habitat so that the project comes up. This will create lot of jobs which will be available to the Goan IT engineers who otherwise have to go out of the State for employment, he said."

"PANJIM: Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar on Friday announced the drafting of information technology (IT) investment policy, which would invite national as well as international IT companies to invest in the State, and generate nearly 10,000 jobs in the sector in the next one-and-half year. Parsekar, who is the IT minister, said that government in its Budget 2015-16 has proposed to set up an electronic city at Tuem industrial estate and IT park at Chimbel and in a bid to expedite the process, a committee comprising all heads of the departments concerned including town and country planning, forest, power and PWD has been constituted to grant required permissions."

"PANJIM: In a bid to reduce the exodus of IT professionals from the State and create more information technology and IT enabled services here, the Goa IT Professional Core Committee, has set in motion a plan to make Goa a viable IT destination.  Goans employed in IT companies based in Mumbai, Pune and Bangalore visited the State and engaged themselves in talks with the chief minister, bureaucrats and NGOs to create a plan unique to Goa. Speaking to media persons, unit in-charge Gurudev Naik said the model developed for the State draws similarities to other IT cities but not entirely. "

"Goa may have five Information Technology (IT) colleges that churn over a 1,000 students every year, but only a handful are placed in companies and organizations within the State. The reason: the lack of an IT atmosphere and resources to make it one.  It isn't that Goans lack the potential to be at the top. The likes of Andrea Colaco and Cognizant CEO Francisco D'Souza only prove this point. But the education sector may not be creating the required levels of interest in students and that too from a very young age.  Unlike Bangalore that have drafted a separate policy called the i4 policy dedicated specifically to IT, ITeS, Innovations Incentives policy, Goa functions with an Investment Policy of 2014 and no separate IT policy as such. The last drafted IT policy is in 2005. A look at the Investment Policy 2014 and its clear the government takes a more industry based approach rather than an educated one. "

"PANJIM: The Goa IT Professionals (GITP) group has urged the government to promote Goan IT and Information Technology enabled Services (ITeS) sectors, since it will generate highly technical, semi-technical and service oriented employment for locals.  In their memorandum, emailed to Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar, the association also assured that it would actively contribute to the government - right from planning to implementation of the project.  "It will help reverse the prevalent brain drain of Goa's educated workforce and with the right regulations in place, arrest the influx of undesired workforce into Goa. The recommendations in our memorandum can help Goa effectively tackle such chronic issues and preserve the much treasured Goan identity, heritage and environment," the GITP memorandum reads."

"PANJIM: A group of Goan IT professionals have written to the Chief Minister and chairman of Infotech Corporation with suggestions, recommendations and expectations on the draft IT policy 2015 highlighting the need to encourage local units through government IT projects and other incentives."

"PANAJI: The Goa IT Professionals (GITP) association has written to chief minister Laxmikant Parsekar and defence minister Manohar Parrikar, besides several industrialists on the investment promotion board to seriously consider the proposal put forth by Lava International to setup a 1,200-1,500 crore manufacturing plant in Goa. "Goa IT Professionals strongly urge the Goa government to accept the proposal and clear the way for a sustainable knowledge-based industry in the state, where Goans can earn respectable livelihood," the group has said in an email that has also been sent to assembly speaker Rajendra Arlekar. "PANAJI: Giving a boost to Goa's efforts to attract industries, the National University of Singapore has found that the state scores higher than India's average when it comes to productivity, quality of life and connectivity. The results are part of a survey of macro indicators conducted by the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy of the National University of Singapore across 35 states and Union territories. "
