From the report, "To date, more than 91,000 students from 197 colleges in 37 states have participated in SENSE, thereby helping to create a wealth of new and actionable data about the entering community college student experience."

This site is credited to Utah State University, and provides math games for users of all ages, from pre-K to grade 12.

KP recommended this site as it has "some decent activities students can do on their own." She also says, "No rules, just play."

eduTecher is a great place to look at new educational technologies, or to find just the right technology to do a job (e.g. document collaboration or word clouds). Each tool is reviewed by the staff, and users can search the database various ways. While many tools have a K-12 focus, there are plenty that would be useful in postsecondary education as well.

According to their About page, "MIT OpenCourseWare (OCW) is a web-based publication of virtually all MIT course content. OCW is open and available to the world and is a permanent MIT activity." There is also a note on this page that each published course "requires an investment of $10,000 to $15,000....Courses with video content cost about twice as much...."

A press release published by Creative Commons, January 20 2011. As part of the Trade Adjustment Assistance Community College and Career Training Grant Program (TAACCCT), over $2 billion will be invested over the next four years, part of the program to support President Obama's goal of increasing college graduates by 2020. This program is of interest to Creative Commons because all such projects must be released using a Creative Commons attribution (CC BY) license.

Amundson argues that the state of Virginia is doing itself a disservice by allowing high school students to graduate with a "standard diploma." The diploma requires only three years of math, leaving many students unprepared for college math and thus required to enroll in developmental math.

"This article provides a rationale for incorporating the development of critical thinking skills into the online learning environment. The author also presents possibilities for building these cognitive skills into online classes. She maintains that incorporating critical thinking skills is a necessary component of learning; these skills assist learners to evaluate and link the abundance of information and ideas that is available via information communication technologies (ICTs). "

According to their "About AACC" page, "The association represents almost 1,200 two-year, associate degree-granting institutions and more than 11 million students." This is a great "go-to" site, with a variety of statistics, demographics and "Fast Facts" as well as information on the White House Summit and related federal initiatives that pertain to community colleges.

This is a Universal Design for Learning project built by CAST, a nonprofit R&D organization that uses Universal Design for Learning as a tool to improve learning opportunities for all individuals, including those with disabilities (originally Center for Applied Special Technology). See the Featured Tools on the home page for some interesting "highly supported" digital tools.

This fun site, one vision of a social media-enabled dictionary, offers not just definitions of words (from a variety of sources), but also contextual references, and the ability to tag and/or build a community around a given word. It's quite hard to describe; I recommend clicking through a few words as they float by on the home page.

The website's tag line is "songs for teaching, learning & fun." Created, in part, with an NSF grant, the site's founders are interested in studying the "usefulness of music in science and math education." The searchable database is great, and the blog is interesting -- conferences and other updates on topics of interest to those interested in the intersection of music and education.

Presented by Innovation in Teaching and Leaning for Technological Innovation at Nashville State Community College. The premise of this project is that a course is linked with a local business and the students work directly with business partners to solve "real-world problems." The site offers background on problem-based and case-based learning, as well as tools to help an instructor connect with a business and frame his/her course.
