Post Modern Fragmentation - 1 views

  •
This website looks at the beginning of post modernity and how it has come to define a rather complex society. In order to show just how complex post modernity can be, the website tries to simplify it by first looking at how it was first applied in architecture. It also regards the importance of post modernity in art and how it had a fundamental impact on philosophy where it led to the development of new ideas. It tries to make clear distinctions, though a difficult task, between modernity and postmodernity. This site also emphasizes key components that define post modernity such as fragmentation, blurred boundaries between right and wrong, and complexity. It further goes on to discuss how this fragmentation is seen in the relationship between culture and media, and how that affects the society at large.

This website discusses what post modernity is as well as the various perceptions that different point of views have on the subject matter. The website talks about how the term first came to be with architecture in 1971 and from there has spawned a whole new genre of books, movies, art, and many others. The main points of view the website contains are the Marxist point of view, the non-Marxists who are critics of the idea of post modernity, and the sociologist who see postmodern aspects of everything around them. It then goes into describing how post modernity influences subjects such as post structuralism, which involves the books having meaning beyond that which the author meant it to have, and many other aspects of human life such as society and politics. The last section deals with why post modernity is a problem because it can be argued that post modernity puts an end to progress. Overall, this website gives an excellent look in to the depths that post modernity can reach in all aspects of life and whether or not such a change will be detrimental to our society.

The evolution of technology affects all aspects of life. What some people fail to realize is how it has affected the sexual nature of society. What the advancement of the personal computer, and its prevalence in homes, the availability of porn began to change sex significantly. This article discusses not only Cyberporn, but how components of Post Modern society has been a significant component in its frequency. It also looks into new sexual trends such as male masochism, and delves into possible explanations for the cultural phenomenon. With a new sexual phenomenon known as "sexting," becoming more popular, it is important to look at other sexual trends that have been connected to technology and Post Modernity in the past.

The Latest Cell Phone Use: Sexting - 1 views

This website examines the dangers of sexting and just how this phenomenon of sexting has rapidly developed over a short period of time. It shows that the majority of the problems lies in the fact that this sexting is occurring between young adults or teenagers. What is most notable about this site is the connection it makes between sexting and a component of postmodernity. The website views sexting as an act of isolation and detachment which is often considered to be a major aspect of postmodernity. These teens that are engaging in sexting perhaps feel that this act of sending lewd pictures, texts, and videos poses less of a risk and emotional attachment, thereby contributing to this idea of isolation. Another key component of this website is that it looks at the idea of pornography and how our digital age has allowed it to grow and prosper among the younger generation and in doing so, it emphasizes the negative side effects to such a tremendously technological advanced society.

This site discusses literature, visual art, architecture, and music and dance in terms of how they have become postmodern through the changing times. The point of high and low art forms and how they almost seem to be one today is mentioned multiple times in the descriptions of works becoming postmodern in today's society. By reading the site a more concrete example of postmodernity comes to light in seeing the "then and now" aspects. The site describes each aspect and generally compares it to modernity so that the two can be separated and postmodernity understood.

Twitter - 0 views

What is more postmodern than being updated on multiple people's lives in a matter of seconds. Twitter is a site that allows just that. Users are allowed to share what they are doing with their lives in 160 characters or less. The posts are instant and gives people the possibility and knowing a person's every move. This site depicts how communication and the value of privacy have changed within the postmodern era. As a postmodern concept, face to face communication is obsolete. Why talk to someone to find them when their Twitter gives second by second updates of their entire day? More importantly why is this person posting this information and why do so many people follow them to discover what the posts will say? These are questions that do not need to be answered in a postmodern society because they are the norm.

The Postmodern Adventure: Science, Technology, and Cultural Studies at the Third Millen... - 0 views

Steven Best and Douglas Kellner provide a concise explanation of just what postmodernity is in the introduction of their book. This section, appropriately titled, "Between the Modern and the Postmodern," explains how our culture has transitioned between the two. Cultural definitions, structures, and ideals are being transformed in all aspects of life. These changes are due largely in part to the growth of technology and the way it is presented and used. "Bombardment" and "fragmentation" are two poignant and descriptive words that accurately summarize how postmodern society experiences day-to-day life. The title of the book also clues the reader in to the authors' opinion of postmodernity. It is an adventure. One that has many more advancements ahead of it.
