UA anthropologists will invite FLAGâ¿¿s thirteen traditionally associated tribes to SUCR, WACA, and WUPA, and interview tribal members about their traditional associations with FLAG landscapes, places and resources, including plants necessary for the continuation of traditional ceremonies. UA will employ a Graduate Research Assistant (.50 FTE ) for two academic years to work with Dr. Ferguson and Dr. Austin on the project. Research with participating tribes is targeted for spring break and summer so that the Graduate Research Assistant can help conduct the field work. It is anticipated that members of the Paiute Consortium and the Western Apache Working Group will conduct joint field work, so eight sessions of field work are budgeted. Each session will entail three days of work with tribal research participants, including travel to and from reservations.

The BLM has worked with the Geological Society of America GeoCorps America Program for over 15 years to provide geoscientists, college students, professionals, and retirees, hands on experience in overall land management. The need for geoscience expertise is great. In many cases, geoscience is not adequately addressed in education, resource management, geological hazards mitigation, and other geological work on public lands. The GeoCorps program, dating from 1997, strives to increase the number of geoscientists able to provide educational outreach to a multitude of diverse land managers in order to address a more global approach for overall land management decisions and to raise the publicÿfds knowledge and awareness of the value of geoscience resources on public lands. The objective of this program is to continue to provide geoscientists, college students, professionals, and retirees, hands on experience in resource management, geological hazards mitigation, and other geological work related to overall land management in order to develop skills and abilities in geosciences.

The Albert Einstein Fellowship supports creative, interdisciplinary thought by giving young scholars the chance to pursue research outside their previous area of work. Candidates must be under 35 and hold a university degree in the humanities, in the social sciences, or in the natural sciences. Applications for 2019 should include a CV, a two-page project proposal, and two letters of recommendation. All documents must be received by April 15, 2018. At the end of the fellowship period, the fellow will be expected to present his or her project in a public lecture at the Einstein Forum and at the Daimler and Benz Foundation. The Einstein Fellowship is not intended for applicants who wish to complete an academic study they have already begun. A successful application must demonstrate the quality, originality, and feasibility of the proposed project, as well as the superior intellectual development of the applicant. It is not relevant whether the applicant has begun working toward, or currently holds, a PhD. The proposed project need not be entirely completed during the time of the fellowship, but can be the beginning of a longer project. PLEASE NOTE THAT NO FELLOWSHIPS WILL BE GIVEN FOR DISSERTATION RESEARCH. THE PROPOSED PROJECT MUST BE SIGNIFICANTLY DIFFERENT IN CONTENT, AND PREFERABLY FIELD AND FORM, FROM THE APPLICANT'S PREVIOUS WORK.

The Eppley Foundation supports advanced, novel, scientific research by PhDs or MDs with an established record of publication in their specialties. The Foundation does not support work in the social sciences, education or computer science, and only rarely funds research into diseases that have considerable financial support available, such as AIDS, diabetes, cancer and heart disease. Particular areas of interest include innovative medical investigations, climate change, whole ecosystem studies, as well as research on single species if they are of particular significance in their environments, in the U.S. and abroad. The Foundation does not fund work that can qualify for funding from conventional sources such as the National Science Foundation or the National Institutes of Health, or similar agencies at the state level. It is important to the Foundation that the work proposed be novel in its insights and unlikely to be underway elsewhere. The Foundation is prepared to take risks.

The NSF Division of Undergraduate Education (DUE) in collaboration with AAAS will offer an Improving Undergraduate STEM Education: Education and Human Resources (IUSE: EHR) webinar focusing on opportunities for funding in the IUSE: EHR program, specifically associated with the Institutional and Community Transformation (ICT) track of the IUSE program. The IUSE: EHR program "seeks to promote novel, creative, and transformative approaches to generating and using new knowledge about STEM teaching and learning to improve STEM education for all undergraduates." The program supports proposals interested in improving undergraduate education, developing faculty expertise, preparing K-12 teachers, and providing all undergraduate students with STEM competencies and a basic understanding of STEM concepts and principles. All projects must contribute to the body of knowledge about what works in undergraduate STEM education and the conditions that lead to improved STEM teaching and learning. The ICT track seeks to fund innovative work on systemic change that may be measured at the departmental, institutional, or multi-institutional level, or across communities of STEM educators and/or educational researchers. ICT projects are expected to include one or more theories of change to guide the proposed work and this webinar will provide information about expectations for Identifying and incorporating these theories of change.

The objective is to offer funding opportunities for qualified youth conservation corps to engage youth ages 16-30 in work on BLM conservation-related projects. BLM has had a successful youth program over the past several years and we would like to continue with new funding opportunities and project. These projects will provide participants with a mix of work experience, education, training, and support services, as well as the opportunity to develop citizenship values and skills through service to their community and the United States. As the young men and women gain experience in natural and cultural resource management, they will also develop an appreciation for public lands and learn about conservation-related career fields.

Funds are available to participate in a study of wetland-associated breeding landbirds and shorebirds of conservation concern (SOCC) in Anchorage, Alaska, including Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson (JBER). Applicants must be able to: 1) work with Audubon Alaska to recruit, train, and supervise citizen scientists to monitor wetlands in Anchorage parks and on JBER recreational lakes for use by SOCC; 2) compile and summarize SOCC survey data collected by citizen scientists on the use of JBER recreational lakes and other wetlands; 3) recruit, train, and supervise university students to participate in Anchorage and JBER SOCC surveys; 4) supervise students to compile JBER wetlands spatial data and work with USFWS biologists to develop spatial models of habitat use by SOCC, which will be compared to data from Anchorage wetlands; 5) accomplish and coordinate data analysis, report writing, and manuscript preparation on wetland bird habitat use, trends, and annual movements with USFWS and JBER biologists.

The Division of Earth Sciences (EAR) invites the submission of proposals for collaborative, interdisciplinary studies of the Earth's interior within the framework of the community-based initiative known as Cooperative Studies of the Earth's Deep Interior (CSEDI). Funding will support basic research on the character and dynamics of the Earth's mantle and core, their influence on the evolution of the Earth as a whole, and on processes operating within the deep interior that affect or are expressed on the Earth's surface. Projects may employ any combination of field, laboratory, and computational studies with observational, theoretical, or experimental approaches. Support is available for research and research infrastructure through grants and cooperative agreements awarded in response to investigator-initiated proposals from U.S. universities and other eligible institutions.  Multidisciplinary work is required. EAR will consider co-funding of projects with other agencies and supports international work and collaborations.

CCOM's Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship (SURF) program is designed to create research experiences for undergraduate students who are interested in pursuing graduate work. SURF is aimed primarily at students who are working toward a degree in science, engineering, or math and are completing their junior year.

The project would consist of the field reconnaissance of springs and selected wells within each of the subregions. All work would be conducted under the oversight of a California Professional Geologist and Certified Hydrogeologist. A nongovernmental organization (NGO) and the hydrogeologist will work with BLM to identify the final list of springs and wells for each subarea. Spring monitoring would be conducted along the general guidelines presented in Dr. Donald Sada¿s spring reconnaissance methodology prepared for the Desert Managers Group (DMG) but focusing on the hydrologic aspects of his spring method. While biological data will be critical future data to be collected, in the end, biological resources at the springs are tied to the viability of the water source. Further, hydrologic data are easier to accurately quantify and measure with repeatability as opposed to changes in biological resources. The information gathered during this task will inform future biological surveys, eliminating the time spent on far-ranging locations that may otherwise have little value. Additionally, the field reconnaissance will inform any plans for follow-up geochemical sampling of spring water.

The Bureau of Oceans and International Environmental and Scientific Affairs' (OES) Office of Conservation and Water (ECW) at the Department of State, announces the Notice of Funding Opportunity ("NOFO") for Mapping and Analysis of Illegally Harvested Timber and Forest Products in Global Trade, to work with developing countries and partners to gather data and build capacity to identify, analyze, and map illegal timber and forest products trade in key regions for forest production and trade. The results aim to influence policy makers in these regions, and will inform ongoing U.S. programs and the design and implementation of future interventions to assist developing countries in combating illegal logging and associated trade (ILAT). Eligibility is limited to U.S. non-profit/nongovernmental organizations subject to section 501(c)(3) of the U. S. tax code, foreign not-for-profit/nongovernmental organizations, and educational institutions. A cooperative agreement (CA) for up to $492,500 U.S. Dollars (USD) in FY 2017 Economic Support Funds (ESF) will be awarded for work that will support data analysis of global ILAT, including species of concern, drivers of the trade, trade routes and other relevant intelligence at the global, regional, national and subnational levels. The initial period of performance will be for 24 months. Funding authority rests in the Foreign Assistance Act of 1961, as amended.

The North Face Explore Fund supports nonprofit organizations in the U.S. that are looking to increase participation in the outdoors and work in innovative ways to protect our environment. Grants are made in the following categories: The Enabling New Explorers category focuses on programs that introduce underrepresented communities to outdoor adventures in potentially new and interesting ways. The Protecting Our Environment category focuses on programs that work to protect our ecosystems and our ability to continue to enjoy them. Across both categories, programs with strong outdoor engagement in activities such as skiing, kayaking, backpacking, etc. are preferred. Grants generally range from $5,000 to $25,000. he objectives of this Agreement are to further development of change detection research using an existing methodology developed at Oregon State University by Robert Kennedy termed LandTrendr. The two networks both utilize this approach as part of their respective long-term monitoring programs and rely on its development as technology changes. In addition to LandTrendr, OSU has also developed a companion stand-alone program called TimeSync which is crucial during the validation of the LandTrendr-delineated disturbances. This tool also needs to be upgraded to be compatible with current Windows operating systems. This agreement would allow the I&M networks to work collaboratively with OSU to ensure I&M networks receive the specific tools they need to continue their respective long-term monitoring programs without interruption. Oregon State University will also facilitate easier use of LandTrendr for the public and other researchers because this service is being moved to cloud computing which will greatly increase compute speed, decrease the amount of data storage necessary at the network offices, and remove the need for high level computing within the office. The purpose of this program is to collaborate on studies, projects and activities. The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) will work with a partner(s) on mutually beneficial projects to help guide the BLM in the development of the resource management plan for Organ Mountains-Desert Peaks National Monument and help develop best management practices for Prehistoric Trackways National Monument. In the past the BLM has worked with a CESU to support paleontological inventory, study basalt lava flows and produce information for wayside exhibits about geology.
