Where we can use optical fiber for better transmission? - 0 views

  •
Optical fiber, thin flexible fiber with a glass core via which light signals can be sent with minute loss of strength. This Optical fiber is also transparent. Optical fibers are mostly used in transmit light between the two ends of the fiber and find wide usage in fiber-optic communication. Here they permit transmission over longer distances and at higher data rates than electrical cables. Fibers are used instead of metal wires because signals travel along with them with less in addition. Optical fibers are also used for illumination and imaging. These fibers typically include a core surrounded by a transparent cladding material with a lower index of refraction Uses of Optical Fibers in various fields: Communication:- i. Used as a medium for telecommunication and computer networking because it is flexible and can be bundled as cables. ii. Advantageous for long-distance communications iii. This fiber can carry many independent channels, each using a different wavelength of light. Sensors:- i. Optical fiber is used to connect a non-fiber optic sensor to a measurement system. ii. These fibers are used as a sensor to measure strain, temperature, and pressure. Power transmission: i. It can be used to transmit power using a photovoltaic cell. ii. it is especially useful for MRI machines, which produce strong magnetic fields. Miscellaneous uses: i. used in imaging optics. ii. Light guides as medical and other applications where bright light needs.

Digitization 101: Press release: PDF should be used to preserve information for the future - 0 views

  •
This press release was received via the Digital-Preservation email list. Looking at the 27-page report, this caught my eye (p 23): PDF has become a widely used file format that is integrated into many desktop applications. Before adopting any of the PDF subset file formats, organisations must consider the alternative file formats that are available, understand their content (documents and records), and how they use electronic information. It is critical to understand the purpose of the electronic information as that will be a determining factor in choosing the file format to best suit the organisation's needs. The recommendation is not to use PDF blindly, but to use it when appropriate.

What are the connector types of Fiber optic patch cord? - 0 views

  •
A patch cord or the optical jumper is the length of cable with connectors on the ends that is used to connect an end device to something else, such as a power source. One of the most common uses is connecting a desktop, laptop, or other end devices to a wall outlet. Patch cord is also known as patch cable. A patch cable is a copper cable that has an RJ45, GG45 or TERA connector on both ends; although hybrid versions exist that have different types of connectors on the ends. Fiber patch cords are typically called fiber jumpers and are either mode conditioning jumpers or standard jumpers. A patch cable may also be used to connect a server or a switch port to the structured cabling system. Although the new standards do not allow doing so, sometimes a patch cable is used to connect a server directly to a switch port. If patch cords are included when the cabling channel is tested, it is a called channel test, but it is a permanent link test otherwise. Special connectors are essential to test patch cables, which should not be tested by using other test methods. Usage of a patch cable as an Ethernet cable: An Ethernet cable and a patch cable can be the same thing but the Ethernet is usually shorter to "Patch" in from the patch panel to the switch. Working methods of patch panels: Here each port connects by means of a patch cable, and sends data to an outgoing port location. https://www.wpiinc.com/var-505171-sillica-uv-vis

What are the applications of multi mode optical fiber? - 0 views

  •
Optical fiber cable with its complex design has an outer optical coverage that surrounds the light and traps it within a central core. We can distinguish the optical fiber cable in two different types. One is Single mode optical fiber and the other is multimode optical fiber. Multi-mode fiber is a type of optical fiber designed to carry multiple light rays. This fiber mostly used for communication between short distances, such as within a building or on a campus. Other common type of optical fiber is the single-mode fiber, which is used mainly for longer distances. Because of its high capacity and reliability, multi-mode fiber generally is used for backbone applications in buildings. This fiber is also used when high optical powers are to be carried through an optical-fiber, such as in leaser welding. Bend resistant optical fibers which are multi-moded at 1300 nm include a core, an inner cladding, a low index ring and an outer cladding.

A transgenic animal is one whose genome has been altered by the transfer of a gene or genes from another species. In biomedical research, in the laboratory, transgenic animals are routinely used as models. Over 95 percent of those users are genetically modified rodents, predominantly mice. Transgenic animals have many Utilities which made them much superior to the normal animals. Utilities of Transgenic Animals: * During medical research, transgenic animals are mostly used to identify the functions of some specific factors in complex homeostatic systems. These can be through the over- or under-expression of a modified gene (the inserted transgene). * In the toxicology as the responsive test animals for the detection of toxicants. * In mammalian developmental genetics. * In molecular biology, this analysis of the regulation of the gene expression, make use of the informative evaluation of some specific genetic change, at the level of the whole animal. * While in the pharmaceutical industry, for the targeted production of pharmaceutical proteins, and during the drug production also on the product efficacy testing. * In biotechnology, as producers of specific proteins. * For the genetically engineered hormones to increase milk yield, meat production. * In the cloning procedures to reproduce some specific bloodlines in the genetic engineering of the livestock, and in the aquaculture that affects the modification of animal physiology and/or anatomy, * Developing animals specially created for use in xenografting.

What are the applications of microinjection? - 0 views

  •
Through the process microinjection, we can easily transfer foreign DNA into the animals. So, among the few other processes we have for genetic transfer, we can say that microinjection is the best process to transfer genes between the transgenic animals. We can name the whole process as microinjection transgenic animals. Transgenic animals are the one that carries a foreign gene into their genome to alter their DNA. The method of producing such an animal involves the injection of the unrelated gene into the pronuclear of a fertilized egg. This egg is then planted into the oviduct (the tube through which an ovum or egg passes from an ovary) of a recipient animal who gives birth to the genetically modified progeny. Amongst all several transgenic animals created, the most common ones are mice. Others include transgenic pigs, rabbits, rats, cows, sheep, and fish. The use of microinjection as a biological procedure began in the early 1990s, although even through the 1970s it was not used commonly. By the 1990s, its use had grown rapidly significantly and it is now considered a common laboratory technique. http://www.articles.gappoo.com/Articles-of-2019/applications-microinjection-transgenic-animals

What are the benefits of Optical fiber cable? - 0 views

  •
Fiber Optic cable has a complex design. This type of cable has an outer optical coverage that surrounds the light and traps it within a central core. The inside of the cable can be classified into two different ways - Single-mode and multi-mode. Multimode optical fiber cable is way more powerful than the single-mode. A multi-mode cable has a much larger central core that allows a greater amount of light to travel through it at once. The core of a multi-mode cable varies but usually, it is 50/125 or 62.5/125 microns in size. Increased core size means that light can refract at a greater rate. Along with this product, WPI offers fluorescence probes designed for small sample sizes and small volumes. These probes can be used for the detection of the transient response of free ion concentrations, like calcium, potassium, sodium or magnesium. Fluorescence probes can also be designed to detect pH or membrane potential. Auto-fluorescence like the detection of ATPase activity via NADH or FAD is another application. Optical fiber cable has lots of benefits, such as: * High attenuation and dispersion. * Greater data-transmitting capabilities. * It can be used within large capacity & high-speed networks. * It can still achieve much greater distances than any other cable especially coaxial cables.

What are the applications of Optical fiber cable? - 0 views

Optical fiber is a thin, flexible, adaptable, transparent fiber which is made of silica. It is a flexible transparent material consisting of core & cladding which is used for transmission of light rays based on refraction of light. Optical fiber is the basic transmission medium for fiber-optic communication. These include the concept and classification of propagation modes along the fiber, single-mode condition, numerical aperture, mechanisms and specifications of optical attenuation and dispersion, as well as nonlinearities of optical fiber. While dispersion specifies mode-dependent or wavelength-dependent propagation speed of optical signal propagating in an optical fiber, which is both linear effects, nonlinear effects such as stimulated Raman scattering. Stimulated Brillouin scattering, and power-dependent refractive index known as Kerr effect nonlinearity may also affect wave propagation in optical fiber. Although standard optical fibers are most often used in optical communication systems, a variety of specialty fibers have also been developed for special applications. The optical performance of solid-core polymer-based microstructured optical fibers is the Theoretical model developed earlier is utilized for solid-core triangular air/polymer microstructured optical fibers (MPOFs). The scalar variational approach is implemented for evaluating the fundamental modal characteristics of polymer-based MOFs. Effective index for higher-order mode at terahertz (THz) regime is evaluated and the cut-off conditions are also identified. Coupling characteristics of long-period gratings (LPG) in MPOF has been examined. The sensitivity coefficient is explored for realizing efficient coupling in the evanescent field-based sensing applications.

Applications of solarization resistant fiber - 0 views

  •
Solarization Resistant Fibers are recommended for fiber guided applications such as ultraviolet (UV) spectroscopy in which a UV light source emitting radiation below 260 nm is used. Unlike typical fiber optic cords and bundles, these fiber optic cords are used to withstand the effects of high energy UV photons and maintain high transmittance (the ratio of the light energy falling on a body to that transmitted through it) over UV wavelength regions for the much longer time period.

Right genetic transfer technique to transfer DNA into cells - 0 views

  •
Gene transfer technique is used very frequently both in basic research and applied biology. The delivery of DNA into animal cells is a fundamental and fixed procedure. It has become anecessary tool for gene cloning, the study of gene function and regulation and the production of small amounts of recombinant proteins for analysis and verification. Gene transfer experiment helps to launch the genetic construct (or transgene) in the recipient cells or to disrupt or inactivate particular endogenous genes resulting in a loss of function. There are many utilizations of gene-transfer like large-scale commercial production of recombinant antibodies and vaccines and gene medicine or gene therapy. They range from the use of mammalian and insect cell cultures to transfer of DNA into human patients for the correction or prevention of disease.
