During the struggle for civil rights, many brave men and women sacrificed their lives to improve the lives of Americans of all races. Unfortunately, because of lingering institutional racism in the South, the murders of these civil rights workers were not all investigated to their fullest, and quite a few went unsolved. The Federal Bureau of Investigation recently announced its "Civil Rights-Era Cold Case Initiative," to try to identify the next-of-kin of some of the victims of these cases.

The Google Operating System blog points out that Google's integration of Scholar results means that students and researchers have to settle for "subscription required" firewalls when trying to pull up a paper. Hit the "All (x) versions" link, and you'll often find a readable copy on Google's servers. Gene transfer technique is used very frequently both in basic research and applied biology. The delivery of DNA into animal cells is a fundamental and fixed procedure. Gene transfer experiment helps to launch the genetic construct (or transgene) in the recipient cells or to disrupt or inactivate particular endogenous genes resulting in a loss of function. There are many utilizations of gene-transfer like large-scale commercial production of recombinant antibodies and vaccines and gene medicine or gene therapy. They range from the use of mammalian and insect cell cultures to transfer of DNA into human patients for the correction or prevention of disease.
