Google: Get Around Academic Paper Restrictions - 0 views

  •
The Google Operating System blog points out that Google's integration of Scholar results means that students and researchers have to settle for "subscription required" firewalls when trying to pull up a paper. Hit the "All (x) versions" link, and you'll often find a readable copy on Google's servers. These "subscription required" sites are annoying and counterproductive. Journals are supposed to disseminate data, instead they restrict access and deny it to those who need it most (students). eilu One of my most-used techniques when I wrote my thesis.... 1 reply by realityhole + Image of realityhole realityhole 7:58 AM @eilu: I think the reason for it is to try and stop (or at least hinder) plagiarism, but of course google are going to want subscriptions anyway realityhole @ eilu : I think the reason for it is to try and stop... o o 6:59 AM 2 replies Image of michaelmc michaelmc 6:59 AM Scholar is also available from certain (many?) universities such that, if you access the site through the sch

Photographing headstones is not very different from any other type of photography - 1 views

  •
Photographing headstones is not very different from any other type of photography. The basic principles of photography apply: proper lighting, exposure, focus, etc. Since we will be using digital photography for this project, it is also important to consider things like image resolution and file size. However there are a number of special tips unique to taking photographs of headstones. This guide is to help the photographer take pictures that capture accurate images ready for electronic cataloging. The information in this document is just a guideline, and a very basic one at that. The photographer may find that he or she needs to experiment with their camera to get the best picture possible.

Where we can use optical fiber for better transmission? - 0 views

  •
Optical fiber, thin flexible fiber with a glass core via which light signals can be sent with minute loss of strength. This Optical fiber is also transparent. Optical fibers are mostly used in transmit light between the two ends of the fiber and find wide usage in fiber-optic communication. Here they permit transmission over longer distances and at higher data rates than electrical cables. Fibers are used instead of metal wires because signals travel along with them with less in addition. Optical fibers are also used for illumination and imaging. These fibers typically include a core surrounded by a transparent cladding material with a lower index of refraction Uses of Optical Fibers in various fields: Communication:- i. Used as a medium for telecommunication and computer networking because it is flexible and can be bundled as cables. ii. Advantageous for long-distance communications iii. This fiber can carry many independent channels, each using a different wavelength of light. Sensors:- i. Optical fiber is used to connect a non-fiber optic sensor to a measurement system. ii. These fibers are used as a sensor to measure strain, temperature, and pressure. Power transmission: i. It can be used to transmit power using a photovoltaic cell. ii. it is especially useful for MRI machines, which produce strong magnetic fields. Miscellaneous uses: i. used in imaging optics. ii. Light guides as medical and other applications where bright light needs.

In the mainstream of radiology, Computer-aided diagnosis (CAD) is a rapidly accessing technique used in clinical work with along with AI in radiology. Since, two decades CAD system was put in clinical practice in radiology to diagnose prostate, breast, lung and colon cancer. To interpret the image diagnosis, the radiologist uses computer output as a "second opinion" and obtains assistance for accurate detection.
