Space Alert | Board Game | BoardGameGeek - 0 views

  •
"It's a cooperative team survival game. Players become crew members of a small spaceship scanning dangerous sectors of galaxy. The missions last just 10 real-time minutes (hyperspace jump, sector scan, hyperspace jump back) and the only task the players have is to protect their ship. On 2 CDs (or Scenario cards if you don't have a CD player available) are ten minute long soundtracks that represent central computer announcements about the presence of various threats. These vary from space battleships and interceptors to different interstellar monsters and abominations, asteroids or even intruders and malfunctions on the spaceship. Players have to agree who will take care of which task and coordinate their actions (moving around the ship, firing weapons, distributing energy, using battlebots to deal with intruders, launching guided missiles, etc.) in real time to defend the ship. Only a well-working team can survive 10 minutes and make the jump back to safety."

Proof of Learning: Assessment in Serious Games - 2 views

This article is from 2005, but there is some interesting material reviewed. Of course, the article mentions Jim Gee. One part that I found interesting was where Jim Brazell, a consulting analyst at the Digital Media Collaboratory, basically says that the only way someone can make an effective simulation game is to understanding thoroughly that which is being simulated. Thus, creation of games has the "potential to lead to new knowledge and new ways to do things through emergent behavior." This is the first time I've seen such a clear description of how game design can be used to build knowledge.

AMAZING I CAN'T WAIT, a mix of reality and alternate reality, it is of course the evolution of games. ! Pac-Man on Steroids. Count me in, the answer to the complaint that all MMORPGers do is sit at a computer! I am anxious for this game to launch. I would be a player.

This goes back to where I live, Higher Ed, and addresses some of the basic steps in introducing a games based curriculum. It's a little bit more of an overview than I'd like, but some of the content is solid.

Looking for FREE MMORPG or other GAMES? Here are 47 - 1 views

Glad to see so many of you on the list. If you running out of game possibilities or want to expore more, here is a list of 47 FREE games available through STEAM, there is no cost to have an account, but whatever you do don't lose your STEAM password, it is very difficult to get it back... trust the "grasshopper98" on this. They have quite a few games I am looking at for possible use in my classroom. Some can be played within STEAM and others need a free-download to play, but may need strong graphics, ram memory and high-speed internet, others will work just fine within STEAM. No I haven't played them all. [Wink] So many games so little time.

Education Levels Up! - A noObs guide to Gamifying your Classroom " MrDaley.com | MrDale... - 0 views

  •
"A new way to manage classroom instruction is slowly creeping into the world of education: " Gamification ". Gamifying simply means turning the class content and the way students learn into a game with a rewards system, quests, experience levels, and healthy competition." This page is more useful for K-12 educators, but there are a LOT of resources that will still be helpful for post-secondary educators as well. This is more of a list of resources and definitions than any kind of critical discussion or a list of practical suggestions, but it's still very useful.

This Scoop.it is excellent. I go to it to find out about new uses of educational technology and it rarely disappoints! Typically I don't post links that just go to a list of links, but I think this is worth it.

Magic the Gathering - Real Time Play at FRCC - 0 views

  •
This is an older and younger player at FRCC on one of our Table Top Game Club, and this is three player, where he says "Kill a Jace" it is to kill a Planeswalker, not something taken lightly but what he is given in exchange basically makes him unbeatable. If you don't stage these plays, then it is just the real reality of chatter, play, nothing happening, or else.

Satire as only South Park can accomplish -- I found the "Blizzard Board" scene especially funny. A colleague and I were discussing yesterday if a Second Life avatar could come down with the plague. The end of the world. of warcraft. :)
