Moko milks the instant chat fad - 0 views

  •
Australian effort for instant chatting on a mobile.
  •
The site is now expanding globally but Rodwell, 46, bristles at the suggestion that his creation is just another social network. He says that, while social networks are designed to help us keep in touch with our existing friends, Moko is all about making new connections.

Fascinating way that you can search who said what -- this takes the US presidential candidates but you can use it to compare other people as well. This is fascinating.

An attempt to summarise some of the concepts from 'A Whole New Mind'
  •
The following concepts are based on the book entitled: 'A Whole New Mind' by Daniel H. Pink. The book argues that people who develop the Right-side of their brain hemisphere in the future will be the ones that will be in more demand by society and business.

Use Google Moderator To Crowdsource Group Questions - 0 views

  •
Google Moderator is a simple tool that helps groups determine which questions should be asked at all hands meetings, conferences, Q&A sessions, etc. The idea is that there are always lots of good questions to ask in a limited period of time, but it's hard to know which questions the attendees are most interested in hearing discussed. Moderator lets users add questions and vote on the questions of others, so the cream rises to the top.
  •
This way, the most popular and relevant questions would rise to the top so that the presenter or the moderator of an event could run the discussion more efficiently and in a transparent manner.

Eco-Bunnies - 0 views

  •
Businesses see that the way to influence education is to provide meaningful, cool video for school children. This project with students shows how education and teaching can change in a new way. Kids and teachers are connecting directly to companies and one another in cool projects like this.
  •
Travelocity has worked to create a course on carbon offsets and wants help naming their eco-bunnies. This looks to be something fascinating for elementary teachers. Would love to hear what you think?

ExploraVision - 0 views

School competitions now center around online websites, they used to just be on paper! What a difference to get to see what kids suggest, it means that their influence is felt far beyond the classroom and can even influence the scientists who view their work.
  •
Contest to encourage student to create a vision of the future of technology. This site shows the inventions and the awards. This is a neat competition and you might want to plug in your math and science program, particularly the gifted program. Competitions help your top students reach higher and are a very important part of gifted programs (and others too!)

THE FEATURED ARTISTS COALITION - 0 views

  •
Artists are moving to have their rights protected in new ways. With copyright infringement running rampant, somehow artists and others have to figure out how to navigate in this new world. I wish artists would consider some sort of educational license ot let students make videos and use their music in school media.

ABC News: Newest Key to Teenage Freedom - 0 views

  • Car keys -- long perceived as the keys to teenagers' freedom -- may soon be the best way for parents to monitor their every move.
  • that allows parents to set safety limits on teen drivers through a high-tech car key.
  •
Ford announces a car key will allow parents to set limits on their teenage drivers. If you want to require them to buckle up before the car cranks - you can do it. If you want them not to listen to loud music or not drive over a certain speed, you can do that too! Technology has brought freedom - it can also restrict teens as well, as many will begin to realize. They should behave responsibily or more devices such as this will emerge to elicit control at the source.
  •
Computing devices are in cars and many other devices. This is an example of a device that will be used to restrict teenage drivers, from ford.

On-again off-again iPhone app Podcaster is on again, sort of - 0 views

  • The developer who has already had his iPhone app denied from Apple's App Store and had his ability to issue Ad Hoc licenses of the app revoked by Apple is hoping that the third time's a charm
  • Podcaster first made news last month when Sokirynsky made it known that his application had been rejected from the App Store for duplicating the functionality of iTunes. The third-party app allows users to download podcasts to their iPhones or iPod touches. Users could then listen to the podcasts immediately instead of having to sync with a computer first.
  • Apple then denied Sokirynsky the ability to distribute any more ad hoc copies of the application.
  •
Look at what apple is doing to protect their own hold on the musical pursestrings of society with this.
  •
Apple is quite protective of the uses of their devices and although they allow the development of "apps" -- they made waves recently when they denied the app that allows people to download and listen directly to podcasts w/out synching w/ the computer. Mobile itunes doesn't offer this feature. So, there is "open" and truly "open." Iphone apps store isn't really open, if this is true.

Gmail Goggles: No More Drunk Emailing on Friday Nights - 0 views

  •
I'm laughing at mail goggles, but do agree, that even though I don't drink, sometimes when I'm angry, I need some sort of goggles to keep me from flaming and sending a bad email!! This new feature from google labs is something you can enable on your gmail account - at certain times of day it will check your reflexes and if your'e a little slow, it won't let you send the email but will save it for later. I find this interesting and funny but the truth is that when we talk to a person who is inebriated, we know not to take what they say seriously -- there is no such thing on email -- you cannot see their state of mind. Isn't this why emoticons evolved?
  •
Self control from google labs for gmail. This is interesting.

U.S. official says online drug videos threaten teens | Reuters - 0 views

  • The director of the White House war on drugs said on Monday that Internet videos that show people getting high pose a dangerous threat to teenagers by encouraging them to use drugs and alcohol.
  •
Online videos are often to blame or being talked about in many forums.
  •
It would be ineresting to see a STUDY on this. While I agree it is not good for kids to see -- we also need to see correlation before we jump into things. I still think that a rating system for youtube and online videos is needed to aid in filtering for age appropriateness.

Official Google Blog: Knol debates: See both sides, get involved - 0 views

  •
Seems like an interesting idea to allow a debate, and then others can interact one way or the other. Will the debates use stories as mentioned in 'A Whole New Mind?'
  •
Our first debate focuses on the economy. Economists from the Cato Institute and the Economic Policy Institute (EPI) have offered opening arguments on what should come next now that the Emergency Economic Stabilization Act is law. Take a look to see what they think -- but don't stop there. As with most articles in Knol, these are open to collaboration, so you can rate what you read, submit comments, write full responses (i.e. reviews), or even suggest edits to the author by making changes right in the knol itself.
