""TriZetto has great employees, an agile solution set, and an unparalleled customer base in the healthcare payer and provider markets," said Devanny. "In the months and years ahead, we will build on this strong foundation to help healthcare organizations meet new challenges with new, world-class, technology-enabled solutions. Op-Ed Contributor - What's the Point of Daylight Time? - NYTimes.com - 0 views

  •
Looks likely that president elect Obama will support elimination of Daylight savings time in the US. This op-ed piece in the New York times talks about how DST does not link to energy conservation as once thought. The one thing it WOULD make easier is global collaboration - Google Cal doesn't convert to dST until AFTER it happens and we all missed a meeting.

7 Things You Should Know About Alternate Reality Games | EDUCAUSE CONNECT - 0 views

  •
Alternate reality games (ARGs) weave together real-world artifacts with clues and puzzles hidden virtually any place, such as websites, libraries, museums, stores, signs, recorded telephone messages, movies, television programs, or printed materials. ARGs are not computer or video games, but electronic devices are frequently used to access clues. Players can meet and talk with characters in the narrative and use resources like postal mail, e-mail, the web, or the public library to find hints, clues, and various pieces of the puzzle. ARGs open doors into the future of students' professional lives, where they will be expected to solve complex problems by taking necessary raw materials from multiple resources, thinking critically and analytically, and putting their individual skills, interests, and abilities at the disposal of a group dedicated to a common goal.

Use Google Moderator To Crowdsource Group Questions - 0 views

  •
Google Moderator is a simple tool that helps groups determine which questions should be asked at all hands meetings, conferences, Q&A sessions, etc. The idea is that there are always lots of good questions to ask in a limited period of time, but it's hard to know which questions the attendees are most interested in hearing discussed. Moderator lets users add questions and vote on the questions of others, so the cream rises to the top.
  •
This way, the most popular and relevant questions would rise to the top so that the presenter or the moderator of an event could run the discussion more efficiently and in a transparent manner.

However, with varying degrees of citizen capacity and resources, which technologies are best suited? Will citizens without high-speed access to the internet ultimately have less ability to engage with government or partake in its services? How do we address the access and knowledge divide?"

Common Worries Among Corporations and Governments - 1 views

  •
"Corporations and governments are starting to worry about a common set of related issues. During the last two months I was fortunate to participate in several conversations with top corporate executives and foreign government officials all of whom are visiting Silicon Valley with increasing frequency. The conversations covered topics ranging from innovation and the rapid technological changes we are experiencing and must adapt to, the mismatch of skills and jobs and the changes we must institute to meet our evolving labor needs, and the state of the world economy and the continued impact of globalization. I want to summarize the topics being discussed by these diverse constituencies and provide a place for relevant comments and opinions."

Virtual office - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia - 0 views

  • A virtual office is a combination of off-site live communication and address services that allow users to reduce traditional office costs while maintaining business professionalism[1]. Frequently the term is confused with โ€œoffice business centersโ€ or โ€œexecutive suitesโ€ which demand a conventional lease whereas a true virtual office does not require that expense[

Mount Carmel Area students traveling to India as part of international project - News -... - 0 views

  • In addition to Pennsylvania, this round of the project includes classrooms from Maryland, Alaska, Kansas, California, Texas, Spain, Germany, India, Qatar and Canada.
  • The Flat Classroom Project, cofounded by Julie Lindsay, Beijing, China and Vicki Davis, Camilla, Ga., speaks to the very heart of Pennsylvania's Classrooms for the Future initiative and 21st Century learning, Nestico said.
  • Students are not just doing education, they are living it, creating it, and ultimately, reshaping what it will look like for others in the future, Nestico said.
  •
I love this article from Pennsylvania about Suzy Nestico's class participation in the Flat Classroom project and the Flat Classroom conference. Many in pennsylvania have struggled because of their restrictive rules. Suzy gets it done. "The Flat Classroom Project, cofounded by Julie Lindsay, Beijing, China and Vicki Davis, Camilla, Ga., speaks to the very heart of Pennsylvania's Classrooms for the Future initiative and 21st Century learning, Nestico said. It utilizes technologies such as a Ning and Wikispaces that allow students to collaborate with other students around the world to peer edit and design a variety of multimedia, despite location and cultural barriers, much like how the real world is starting to work. Each student works with an international partner to create a multimedia presentation based on one of the 10 "Global Economic Flatteners," as described by Thomas L. Friedman in his book "The World is Flat: A Brief History of the Twenty-First Century." Nestico learned of the Flat Classroom concept while completing her master's degree in education at Wilkes University, and felt it would give her students an opportunity to explore cultural and political issues without ever having to leave home. After participating in the projects with multiple classes over the past year-and-a-half, new doors opened and, now, students are beginning to meet face-to-face, she said. Students are not just doing education, they are living it, creating it, and ultimately, reshaping what it will look like for others in the future, Nestico said." Great byline that gets to the heart of what we're doing.
