Survey: Teens' Cell Phones Indispensable - CBS News - 0 views

  • The wireless trade association CTIA and Harris Interactive surveyed some 2,000 teens across the country and learned that teens feel that cell phones have become a vital part of their identities.

    I highly recommend that elementary and middle schools at least sign up for a school code for woogi world - this is a great tool suggested by Hoover City schools for teaching digital citizenship. My daughter (my intrepid tester of all kid virtual worlds) loves it and says she thinks it is great for kids.

And if these two boys were to keep their respective teachers for three years, their lives would likely diverge forever. By high school, the compounded effects of the strong teacher—or the weak one—would become too great.

There are mention of several websites including one I'd never heard of called CyberBully Alert.

During their stay in Turkey, the foreign children are housed in Turkish homes and find an important opportunity to interact with the Turkish kids and learn about each other's countries and cultures. The foreign children groups also participate in the special session of the Grand National Assembly. This results in a truly international Assembly where children pledge their commitment to international peace and brotherhood.

    NYU Medical students wear 3-D glasses and dissect a virtual cadaver projected on a screen. The professor says "it's like a living digital textbook." I do, however, really hope my doctors have experience with the human body and don't do like a kid who has practiced basketball and never played in the game - bumble the ball as they start. No one wants to be a practice dummy - in this case a practice cadaver. Yet, do you realize that we could now add human dissection to anatomy class? In 3D you could dissect the human body? There are very exciting things coming in this area.

I'm always looking for new and fun ways to reach the kids. Yesterday, I started my class on a comprehensive project that I'm calling, "Rock On." The goal of the project is for the students teams (all of my classes work in teams) to synthesize what they've learned in class so far (they've learned the marketing mix, target marketing, positioning, segmenting, and the 7-key functions of marketing) and plan a 20 city tour for their band. I found the project from a "Best Practices" book that Jeff McCauley of The Marketing Teacher compiled from marketing teachers and sent out as a PDF a couple of years ago. I have modified the original project to utilize Web2.0 technologies." Interesting ideas - wish I could teach marketing!

    It would be ineresting to see a STUDY on this. While I agree it is not good for kids to see -- we also need to see correlation before we jump into things. I still think that a rating system for youtube and online videos is needed to aid in filtering for age appropriateness.
