Massively Open Online Courses are the discussion in Open Education -- I think the important thing is that students want to CONNECT around content - it is the relationships and connections that are so amazing more than just the content. People with a common passion are connecting through the content. The content becomes a conduit.  "Consider Stanford's experience: Last fall, 160,000 students in 190 countries enrolled in an Artificial Intelligence course taught by Mr. Thrun and Peter Norvig, a Google colleague. An additional 200 registered for the course on campus, but a few weeks into the semester, attendance at Stanford dwindled to about 30, as those who had the option of seeing their professors in person decided they preferred the online videos, with their simple views of a hand holding a pen, working through the problems. Mr. Thrun was enraptured by the scale of the course, and how it spawned its own culture, including a Facebook group, online discussions and an army of volunteer translators who made it available in 44 languages. "Having done this, I can't teach at Stanford again," he said at a digital conference in Germany in January. "I feel like there's a red pill and a blue pill, and you can take the blue pill and go back to your classroom and lecture your 20 students. But I've taken the red pill, and I've seen Wonderland."

"34% of users report their organization's telemedicine program has been in existence between 1 and 2 years, and almost 20% report their program has been in existence for 5 years or longer. Supporting "Continuing Medical Education" is the most common way in which telemedicine is used, followed closely by "clinical consultations". "Text documents" are the most frequently transmitted type of medical information transmitted between locations, while "real-time motion video" is transmitted least frequently. A desire to "deliver quality care to rural/under-served areas" was cited by users as the most important reason their organizations decided to implement a telemedicine, but non-users claim the "availability of affordable technology" would be their primary motivation. "Access to medical databases" was considered the most valuable clinical telemedicine application cited by users. 87% of those using telemedicine report that their organization provides them with access to the Internet. Slightly more than a third of those using telemedicine report that their organization "occasionally" uses telemedicine to assess a patient at a remote location, while almost half "occasionally" use an interactive technology to consult with a remote caregiver. "Lack of funding" was by both users and non-users as the greatest impediment to the growth of telemedicine. Budgets for the majority of new telemedicine programs (less than one year old) appear to have increased by 50% or more from 1997 to 1998. However, budgets for the majority of older telemedicine programs (5 years or more), have remained the same for the majority of the respondents. Non-users indicated that having access to medical databases and the ability to transmit medical images would be the two most valuable telemedicine capabilities. There are many arguments against outsourcing production for companies within the United States. One of these arguments is that the corporation rarely considers the environmental impact of their move. The United States has very strict policies about production produced pollution. However, the United States has little to no control over this area when the jobs are outsourced. Being aware of problems like this, and considering the environmental impact of outsourcing your production, is more important for the longevity of your company as opposed to the immediate profit margin.
