  • globalization restrains governments by inducing increased budgetary pressure. As a consequence, governments shift their expenditures in favour of transfers and subsidies and away from capital expenditures. This expenditure shift is potentially enhanced by citizens’ preferences to be compensated for the risks of globalization (“compensation hypothesis”). Employing two different datasets and various measures of globalization, we analyze whether globalization has indeed influenced the composition of government expenditures.

  • Personal Learning Environments (PLEs) do exactly what they say on the can - they are personal to each individual, created by them, owned by them, used by them within their lifelong learning
  • My personal view is that students own and create their PLE but that the iMLE also has something to offer them, even though it is highly problematic in its current form. I am arguing that many students tend to avoid using the iMLE because they either find it difficult to use, or irrelevant to their daily learning needs. It is a clash of concepts, no bridge seems possible, and the problem appears to be intractable.

    There was a study done to see how many people use their smartphone while watching television. In the US there are 40% who do so on a daily basis, compared to as 12% of tablet users and 13% of smartphone owners say they have never done so. 45% search unrelated info on the web, 42% are checking social networking sites, and fewer than 20% are searching related ads they've seen on TV. While, I just researched some more related to this topic, I came to realize this results are correct and accurate.
