Crypto Capital founder Reggie Fowler is being charged by the SDNY with bank fraud and conspiracy to commit bank fraud, and of running an unlicensed money transmission business and conspiracy related to its operation. Crypto Capital were the money transmitters for Bitfinex and Tether.

Ava Labs CEO Emin Gün Sirer has dismissed allegations from CryptoLeaks that the company formed a "secret pact" with U.S. law firm Roche Freedman LLP to use the American legal system "gangster style" to "attack and harm crypto organizations [i.e., Ava Labs competitors]." Ava Labs is the firm behind Avalanche (AVAX), an Ethereum (ETH) rival in the decentralized finance (DeFi) and customized blockchain space. Roche Freedman LLP was recently involved in separate high-profile lawsuits against Solana Labs and Binance, claiming that the firms were engaging in unlawful activities.

PLoS ONE published a paper that polled 2,001 American adults in 2022 to examine the associations between cryptocurrency ownership and individual level political, psychological, and social characteristics. Analyses revealed that 30% of the sample have owned some form of cryptocurrency and that these individuals exhibit a diversity of political allegiances and identities. We also found that crypto ownership was associated with belief in conspiracy theories, "dark" personality characteristics (e.g., the "Dark Tetrad" of narcissism, Machiavellianism, psychopathy, and sadism), and more frequent use of alternative and fringe social media platforms. The variables that most strongly predict cryptocurrency ownership are being male, relying on alternative/fringe social media as one's primary news source, argumentativeness, and an aversion to authoritarianism.

"Since Emefiele's arrest, the specter of a CBDC monopoly has disappeared. Those who find electronic money more convenient use it. When that convenience is lost, they will switch to cash or its digital alternative. People now know that there wouldn't have been such chaos if the currency digitalization was voluntary and not accompanied by cash delegalization. Will Nigeria's case help other global central bankers and citizens arrive at a similar conclusion? Probably not, so we await the next economic disaster.
