The New Media Interdisciplinary Concentration explores the expressive and communicative possibilities of digital media across the contexts of advertising, broadcast, film, journalism, mass communication, public relations, and Theater.

We are looking for good storytelling (fiction or non-fiction) written specifically for delivery and reading/viewing on a PC or Mac, the web, or a hand-held device such as an iPad or mobile phone. It could be a short story, novel, documentary or poem using words, images, film or animation with audience interaction. We are looking for creativity, so try to be imaginative to create an engaging story i.e. combining any number of media elements, such as words on a screen combined with images and video clips. New media writing can be created using a variety of tools i.e. a word processor, DV camera, social networking tools (i.e. Twitter), mobile phone/s, a scanner - anything goes!

Sean "Diddy" Combs took to YouTube, Twitter and Facebook this week to announce the launch of REVOLT TV - a new socially connected music and news-driven cable channel coming to the Comcast-NBC network in 2013. Memes are great. so great. They take pictures and one conceptualization and create humour by pushing them against modern phrases. There are many memes that borrow from films or television concepts. Look at "Downvoting Roman," "Push it Somewhere Else Patrick," or "Inception" for some examples.

Can't remember the specific time period in the interview, somewhere in the last 5 minutes. The idea of the "Good German" in our society mentioned--referring to someone who tacitly stands by and by his or her silence enables an atrocity. For example during WW2 there were many Germans who stood aside and allowed/enabled the holocaust. Americans are being "good germans" in the common sentiment that Congress is corrupt and beyond reach, but the action shown in response to SOPA and PIPA reveals there is a way for the vox populi to bring about change/fight the wrong kind of change.

Idea of money blocking access. Lessig is talking about Congress and political fundraising, but this is applicable to copyright and the participation gap that is a problem in our new media society.
