राष्ट्रपति रामनाथ कोविंद ने देश के पहले लोकपाल को नियुक्ति को मंजूरी दे दी है। सुप्रीम कोर्ट के पूर्व जज जस्टिस पीसी घोष को इसका अध्यक्ष बनाया गया है। उनके अलावा इसमें कुल आठ सदस्य हैं। इनमें इलाहाबाद हाई कोर्ट के पूर्व चीफ जस्टिस दिलीप बाबासाहेब भोसले, झारखंड हाई कोर्ट के पूर्व चीफ जस्टिस प्रदीप कुमार मोहंती, मणिपुर हाई कोर्ट की पूर्व चीफ जस्टिस अभिलाषा कुमारी और छत्तीसगढ़ हाई कोर्ट के चीफ जस्टिस अजय कुमार त्रिपाठी शामिल हैं।

दिल्ली में रहने वाले 79 वर्षीय पूर्व नगर निगम कर्मचारी जगननाथ को 250 रुपये रिश्वत लेने के आरोप में 28 साल बाद बरी किया गया है।दिल्ली हाई कोर्ट ने हाल ही में उन्हें इस आरोप से बरी किया है। जगननाथ पर आरोप था कि उन्होंने पकड़ी गई एक गाय को छोड़ने के लिए 250 रुपये की रिश्वत ली थी।इससे पहले 2002 में एक ट्रायल कोर्ट ने उन्हें कथित तौर पर रंगे हाथ पकड़ने पर दोषी करार दिया था।
