The 78-year-old hero of the historic 1971 battle of Longewala, Brigadier Kuldip Singh Chandpuri (retd), died today in a private hospital in Mohali. Brig Chandpuri was suffering from cancer. He is survived by his wife, 3 sons. Actor Sunny Deol played the role of Brig Chandpuri in the film 'Border'.

Amid escalating tensions between bitter neighbors India and Pakistan, eight airports were shut down until further notice on Wednesday.The airports which are close to Indo-Pak border were shut down. These include airports of Amritsar, Jammu, Srinagar and Leh, Kullu-Manali, Kangra, Shimla, and Pathankot.

Sushma Swaraj, External Affairs Minister, has clarified that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will not attend the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) in Pakistan until cross-border terrorism is stopped. Addressing press conference, Swaraj said talks and terror can't go hand in hand.
