This is actually a very well known site, but the reason why I chose it is mainly because of the video. Right now I'm having some lessons concerning our community and it's problems. So I'm using the video to establish a discussion about what people think about the "power of one" so far in our discussions we have talked only about the problems society has, but we haven't considered talking about the solutions...and this could be a really good way to introduce them to my class.

An online club for teachers and learners

Violence and abuse inflicted on women by men is not treated with the same seriousness accorded to a human rights violation, or torture, or terrorism, or a war crime, or a crime against humanity, or an atrocity, despite resembling each of these things closely at least and precisely at most. Press Releases is a task that be used with this article. The article is presented to students and they have to research on a woman that has suffered abuse and violence during the terrorists attacks of Shining Path and MRTA. Students have to write a press release about their findings This will provide reflection and publicity! .

This article presents ways to prevent violence against women in post-conflict contexts, particularly by engaging men. The acitivuty to be used is called: FISHBOWL Teacher distributes the article to be read. Teacher sets up a fishbowl by having students get into two circles, one inside the other with the students facing each other. Teacher gives students a question relating to the article to discuss for two minutes with the person they are facing. After two minutes the inside circle rotates moving one person over so each person is facing someone new. For another two minutes they can discuss another topic or the same one. The inside circle continues rotating until they are back in front of their original partner. At the end teacher asks fro volunteers to talk about their impressions on the activity.

Bulldozer Exhibition was an unofficial art exhibition of Moscow avant-garde artists on September 15, 1974. The exhibition was forcefully broken-up by a large police force that included bulldozers and water cannons. The four hours in the forest of the Izmailovo exhibition has often been remembered as "The Half-day of Freedom." It was a political act against the oppressive regime, rather than an artistic event. Teaching ideas: 1. Make a presentation about the artists participating in the exhibition. 2. Discuss the political situation in Russia of that time. 3. Talk about freedom of expression.

Anna, you might remember the Scenario type of activity you did in Integrating the Internet. I can see an interesting Scenario being written on this event. There are many people who do not have an English dictionary at home. For this reason, they can (should) consult a very good dictionary online. As I tell my students, "dictionaries can be your best friends!" (Mainly when you are writing an essay!) =)

If we have to look for a renowned institution in human rights around the world, there it is Amnesty International. It has been all around the world denouncing all kinds of human right violations. They are specially interested in crimes against humanity due to war, political unrest, terrorism, hunger, etc.
