Developing an Association for Language Teachers This handbook has one simple purpose. That is, to provide some practical suggestions for language teachers. It may be that you are thinking about setting up an association or that you have already started an association and would like more ideas on certain aspects. The suggestions which are presented here are all based on the practical experience of teachers in many parts of the world.

This article presents ways to prevent violence against women in post-conflict contexts, particularly by engaging men. The acitivuty to be used is called: FISHBOWL Teacher distributes the article to be read. Teacher sets up a fishbowl by having students get into two circles, one inside the other with the students facing each other. Teacher gives students a question relating to the article to discuss for two minutes with the person they are facing. After two minutes the inside circle rotates moving one person over so each person is facing someone new. For another two minutes they can discuss another topic or the same one. The inside circle continues rotating until they are back in front of their original partner. At the end teacher asks fro volunteers to talk about their impressions on the activity.

It's a very useful site both fir teachers and students. If you're a student you can improve your grammar and build up vocabulary. Teachers can find lesson plans and different material to be used in classes. This page has resources for us teacehrs to help students develop a critical understanding of human rights and responsibilities. Comprehensive, teacher friendly.

A detailed framework for the study of women´s human rights is provided here. The activity to be used is called: Walking Reflection Teacher distributes article and asks students to read it. Teacher hangs pieces of flip chart paper in four different areas of the room. Each piece of paper should have a different heading: (1) A short history of Human Rights; (2) The Concept of Women`s Human Rights; (3) Applying the Human Rights Framework to Women and (4) The Movement for Women`s Human Rights. (these are the headings in the article) Students will travel from each piece of paper and take turns writing down the points/ideas for each heading that attracts their attention.

Amnesty International is a global movement of people fighting injustice and promoting human rights (http://www.amnestyusa.org/our-work). This website offers lesson plans that have been carefully planned by professionals. It also offers Film Curriculum Guides and Teaching Guides for Educators.

There seems to be a wide variety of lesson plans on many issues dealing with human rights and for many different levels of students. I don't know whether these lesson plans could be used as presented, but they appear to provide at least a blueprint for a lesson plan. I also like the references given in the lesson plan, and the plans are easily downloaded.

I had a look at this site after seeing it recommended here on Diigo (thanks!) and it seems to have a lot of potential.  I agree with Richard that teachers would probably need to adapt some of the activities. There are some nice materials though and the 'Rights & Responsibilities' and 'The Right to an Education' are a nice lead-in to the topic of human right as they use the familiar topic of school to get students thinking.

I have chosen this page because it has an article that mentions the cultural diversity and the problems human right face because of this. i think that there is a very interesting reading about it. I think that this article could be very helpfull for a classroom discussion, or a vocabulary activity in which students could give the definition of some words chosen by the teacher.

It is a nice site where we can find some grammar focus exercises. Specially for teachers who do not have enough time to do them on their own. Moreover, it has teachers´forums where we can share ideas.
