I'm Karen a professor at George Brown College in Toronto Canada. I love everything tech and ed. I teach courses like Psychology of Consumer Behaviour, Visual Communications and Soap, Sex & Cigarettes: A Cultural History of Advertising. I'm also partially seconded to our Learning Innovations and Academic Development (LIAD) to help with training faculty in educational technology and I am also the Online Coordinator for the School of Liberal Arts & Sciences at my college. I'm a research assistant at the Department for Interactive Media and Educational Technology at the Danube University Krems and lead there are two part-time master's courses. The concept of the e-portfolio, I was at my first encounter in 2006 rather skeptical. By intensively studying it in research projects and in their own teaching, my position has changed now. This dissertation project was launched in January 2008 as part of the Doctoral College Lifelong Learning and completed in March 2012 with honors.

PLANE (www.plane.edu.au) has implemented an integrated Mahara/Moodle platform for educators to collate digital materials that evidence professional learning over time. Collecting evidence of teacher professional learning has become more important in recent times due to employment conditions. Enrolling in a course on PLANE will automatically create a mahara page to evidence learning. Submitting the page to a group for review allows the learning evidence to be assessed and if compliant, a moodle certificate is granted and automoatically added to the teachers portfolio page for that Moodle course. Teachers can use their portfolio to create online pages, as well as setting and monitoring professional learning goals, reflecting on learning and controlling which items to keep private and which items to share with colleagues.
