Using fresh data from the Trendstream Global Web Index-a recurring survey of more than 50,000 users of social platforms in 18 markets-we mapped by country how people are sharing information about themselves online. We looked at five broadcast behaviors: blogging, managing a social-network profile, sharing photos, sharing videos, and microblogging.
There is so much talk about Facebook, Twitter and Linkedin that sometimes digital marketers in the West forget that there is a mature and thriving social media eco-system existing – in a different parts of the world. Hope this list can provide you with more information about the Chinese social media landscape and I appreciate that this is list only outlines a small percentage of the huge number of great companies operating here.
Two school districts on opposite ends of the country have introduced Twitter to their arsenal of communication tools.
Broward County Public School in Fort Lauderdale, Flordia and Anchorage School District in Anchorage, Alaska have both signed up for Twitter's social media messaging site to post updates, called "tweets", that are then sent out to parents, teachers, students and staff within the district.
"This provides the district an additional method to deliver information expediently and directly to students, parents, and the community," said the Florida district. "Twitter supplements the district's current communications vehicles, which include parent link phone messages, e-mails, the district's Web site, BECON-TV, and the parent newsletter."

"YouTube's own guidelines already block videos featuring sex, violence, bestiality and child pornography. But under the "refused classification" rules, videos featuring subjects as diverse as euthanasia, drug use and graffiti, would also be banned.
Google said it would not voluntarily censor videos on these subjects because exposing the topics to public debate was vital for democracy."
I'm surprised that a communications minister in Australia would request that Google voluntarility censor videos about drug use and euthanasia. Where would this type of censorship stop? Glad Google politely said "no" citing the importance of access to information for democracy.
The government in many of the countries discussed is censoring social media to keep citizens from sharing/hearing information that may go against the current powers at large.
