Disney defends new Hispanic-influenced princess - 1 views

Oops, Disney does it again...Check this out. This princess looks like many of the other "white" princesses Disney has produced. Note the skin color and blue eyes. I can see why there has been backlash by the Hispanic community.

This goes well with the Harvard IAT in seeing how early children are exposed to racist images. Remember, even though some of these videos are old, they get re-released in seven-year cycles.

I was very shocked after watching this video because I grew up watching multiple Disney movies and as I child I never picked up on any of the racist images. This is definitely an issue that many children are exposed to and we don't realize it till we are much older and can look in depth at certain issues. It was really interesting to look back and find all the racist issues I never saw before.

Some of the clips were racist and I am shocked, but some of them I thought they stretched the conclusion that it linked with racism.

i have seen many videos like this, and think it is interesting how when we are kids we enjoy these movies so much when they are really giving us the wrong message. it makes me wonder if watching these disney movies as a kid affected how we view people as we got older.

What an interesting video! Never realized any of these until now. It definitely is apparent in many movies even today although it is getting better.

Harvard Implicit Association Test - 3 views

This is the Harvard IAT. It reveals some of our unconscious biases. I give this to you so you can see that many of the things we react to are unconscious. This is not to say we are sexist, racist, ageist etc., but to show that society contributes to what we believe and shape many of our perceptions unconsciously. I'll post some Disney videos as well to show how young this training begins. I'd also encourage you to watch the video post "A Girl Like Me" with the Clark Doll studies in it. It begins to answer where ideas of raceism and sexism and stereotypes come from. VERY FEW people score in the neutral ranges on all these tests. I flat out couldn't be more biased on work/gender. I have no idea where that came from. But these are interesting and revealing to take. I hope you will take these.
