At first I wasn't sure if this would relate to any of our discussions/readings/principles of design, but I think a lot of us in class are Mac users. A prophesy with any validity or not, it's something to think about for future investments.

A really cool website that documents color trends in 'the world's most fashionable cities.' Perhaps we can use patterns for color/theme ideas as creative fodder for our sites (even if an American city is not featured here).

An article by one of my favorite authors on the "fact-encirclingly huge" Wikipedia.

I know there are some coffee lovers in the class, so this is double apt. Like Four Barrel Coffee, The Daily Grind also chooses not to offer wifi to its customers. An interesting twist to the notion that the Internet is considered a hindrance to our social lives, even over coffee.

While Diigo isn't mentioned here explicitly, this blogger's thoughts (he manages a neat blog called TreeHugger) regarding consumerism can still apply to our source for digital bookmarking.

A really great investigative piece in which a 'Wired' reporter actually takes up the commissions of a spam message to find out what's going on under the hood of its product and project.

This blogger makes some really great points extending Joseph Reagle's ('The Argument Engine' in Wikipedia Reader) ideas of the filter than publish principle of academic publications. Haranguing the filter than publish operation, this author writes how the peer review system adulterates the author's real content writing, "In the conventional peer review system, you seek to please the reviewers who in turn try to please the editor who in turn is trying to guess what the readers want."

Ok-- so maybe this doesn't DIRECTLY apply to a reading on the syllabus, but this is a kind of joke site and will make you look super important and busy on the job or wherever. Kind of interesting to try to decipher what this code is doing. I certainly can't figure it out.

Here's a blog documenting some not-so-obvious hex colors we might use for our sites.

"Print will survive. Books will survive even longer. It's print as a marker of prestige that's dying." Discusses Wikipedia as an extension of its predecessors' vanity and inherent print medium. 

The McLuhan understanding of technology as an extension of ourselves immediately came to mind when I saw the first image here. Also, if this thing had camera capabilities (the ability to Skype, say) we could reasonably apply ideas of autoamputation.

Reminiscent of Goldsmith's idea of appropriation.  (Also, if I remember right, he mentions Satie during the book's opening chapters.)
