The visual flow of an interface does matter, and here's why:
Every interface screen should have a primary action or actions that are to be performed. The visual flow should naturally draw the eye to the primary action. << This resource explains why visual flow matters.
The viewer's eyes are at first drawn to the left because the ad looks off the billboard, but then the reader sees the name of the fitness center which leads to the overweight gentleman on the right of the ad. Follows natural flow of left to right.
Good visual flow exists when the viewer of your page takes a tour through all of its elements, understanding what's important, taking in the key pieces and avoiding snags or dead-ends.

Chapter 1 of Design Fundamentals is all about trying to define new media. This site's main function is to help people have a better understanding concerning communications throughout the internet. New media is constantly being redefined because technology and forms of communication through technology are constantly evolving and developing. This site helped me not only understand better what is considered to be new media today, but can help me in the future as new media evolves and the definition changes.
"An online identity can be as permanent as an offline one: pseudonymous users often identify themselves in different social networks using the same account name"

our own undoing. And therefore, discussions about identity must be
fashioned with a subtler clay. At every juncture-morning, noon and
night-we redefine our own identities"
