2 Live Crew, Weird Al Yankovic, and the Supreme Court on Parody | LegalZoom - 0 views

  •
Lovers of offbeat music and hard-core rap would probably never use the names "Weird Al Yankovic" and "2 Live Crew" in the same sentence. Yet, they have something very important in common. The law protects their use of other people's musical works. The reason is that courts consider both 2 Live Crew's rap combined with pop music riffs and Weird Al's combination of everything... to be parodies, which are protected under fair use doctrine. from LegalZoom.com

An Empirical Study Investigating Instant Messaging as an Enabling Tool for Education. - 0 views

  •
This paper describes an empirical study on postgraduate students in a local university to investigate whether instant messaging (IM) tools are used as enabler tools for learning in tertiary institutions. We first developed a theoretical model based on the Technological Acceptance Model (TAM). We then undertook a survey of 104 postgraduate students. The findings indicated that external factors such as technology utility, network externality, media influences, self-efficacy and affection have a significant effect on perceived usefulness (PU) and perceived ease of use (PEOU). In our study, PEOU has significant influence on the students' acceptance of IM tools as enabler for learning, contrary to past research result of PU influencing acceptance intention. Overall, the findings suggested students' perceptions of IM tools are easy to use and useful in the context of learning. The paper concludes with a discussion on implication to education.

Free advertising for the people, by the people. - 1 views

Open table is a website that is based on user experienced postings of restaurants throughout the nation that offer high-end, expensive entrees. Once someone has visited a restaurant, they will rate the restaurant on a variety of categories such as "ambience", "service", and how "romantic" it is. The restaurants that are on this website do not have to pay to get a posting, near do they have to pay to upkeep the site. While this type of advertising is nearly opinion, It can have much more bearing on an individual than a television ad or newspaper ad. The only difference between this user experienced advertising and traditional advertising is that the users could cast the restaurant in a bad light. I also can't help but think how many times employees or owners of restaurants have logged onto this site and rated their restaurant "outstanding" in all categories.

College education for free - 0 views

I found this website while searching for free educational material for a separate class. While this site may not tie into my research report of "internet advertising", I think it is very important. Academic Earth is a free site that anyone can sign up for. It offers free online video lectures from some of the most prestigous universities in the country (Harvard, Yale, MIT, Stanford, Princeton). The lecture topics range from Psychics to Psychology, and everything in between. The importance of this website is pretty obvious. The average Joe that can't afford college tuition can learn much of the same material for free that the wealthy and privileged are receiving for $100,000 a year.
