DailyTech - Twitter Changes Terms of Service to Allow Ads - 0 views

  •
This article discuses the changes that the popular social networking site 'twitter' has made in it's terms of service. The changes allow the site to advertise through the rapidly growing website. I believe this is a great example of how technology is changing the world. You now see advertisements throughout the web. Some companies spend more on online advertising than all other forms of advertising combined. I believe this change in advertising trends stems from the growing popularity of social networking sites such as twitter and facebook. Some new technologies even scan your personal page allowing websites to better fit advertisements to your tastes and hobbies.

How to sell anything to anyone - 0 views

  •
This article is about selling products. In a way, this can relate to advertising also. The article talks about asking open ended questions to a customer. In advertising, keeping an ad open ended and leaving room or a space for the reader to fill in with their imagination may cause them to become more interested. It also talks about solving a problem. In the ad, give the customer or convince the customer that they will get something that they desire. This article may be about selling, but it is very easy to realize that when you are advertising anything, you are trying to sell it whether you gain monetarily from it or not.

The Future of Twitter - 10 Ways Twitter Will Change American Business - TIME - 0 views

  •
This article discusses how Twitter has become an American necessity as with Myspace and Facebook. Businesses are now using Twitter to get their advertisements and promotions for their products. Anyone who follows their page will get these updates. I chose these articles because it relates to our Twitter usage all throughout the semester. It's amazing how much twitter has grown, 32 million users. It's projected to grow to 50 million by the end of the year, growing by 50%-100% each month. I think soon Twitter will soon pass pop-ups for a mainstream advertising on internet webpages. Just follow someone and they have all the power in the world to give you coupons, promotions, and flyers.

Time Magazine - 0 views

Time magazine is a great display of how multimedia and advertising has taken over writing. Just on the main page alone you'll find videos and podcasts, which are completely different from Time Magazine's old periodicals. In addition articles are rated and views can be counted giving readers instantaneous information about the popularity of an article, which wouldn't be feasible with a printed magazine. In addition, there are also polls, apps, facebook pages, and RSS feeds displaying the degree in which technology has become a part of Time's product. Time is a perfect example of how new technology can be implemented to improve a user base.\n\nI think this site relates to our course work because it is such a fine example of how multimedia can be used in almost any situation. Formerly, Time focused completely on its magazine and viewed any form of internet news sites as competition. This is because they offered Time's product for free. But, by adopting multimedia and the internet Time has been able to stay mainstream and maintain respect instead of slowly wasting away like many other news papers and magazines are in this new internet age.

Images and Propaganda - 0 views

  • images are able to convey information quickly and evoke deep emotions in their viewers.
  • The way the brain processses images also contributes to their power: we can see, remember, and be moved by an image that we have not really thought about.

This site gives some great examples of how images can convey messages, and even arguments. this correlates with the image rhetoric reading we did from the owl web site. reading through i found it interesting how much i realized i am influenced through images on a daily basis. This site altered my perceptions of advertisements and propaganda. I see now that the two are more related than they are different.

Entertainment Weekly to Embed Video Ad in Print Magazine | Popular Science - 2 views

  •
Oddly enough, this article is about another article that will be displayed in entertainment weekly. This article is unique because it is going to contain "embedded" video ads. What this boils down to is an awesome video recording in the middle of your magazine displaying what otherwise would have to be read. This is a bold leap in technology and media displays. I know that I am personally waiting for the day when magazines are just a collage of floating images. This use of technology gets me psyched because it means that people are still trying to be innovative in this form of media. I hope everyone likes the idea as much as I do... maybe then it will become more widespread!

Facebook Privacy Changes - 0 views

  •
Facebook has changed its privacy policy to include a twitter like profit scheme. Facebook is now making the adds and tests you take eligable to be sent back to the developer for research purposes to see what you are interested. This then helps its advertising on the side bar of the website. I chose this article because I think its good to get the word out that whatever you do on Facebook is being sent back to the developer. That then allows them to view your profile to see what you are interested in. To me this seems a little over-kill ion the fact that they shouldn't be able to see your entire profile. But with facebook being free they can do anything.
