Food waste is a big problem for Americans today. We can solve this problem by doing a few things watching and limiting what we buy and eat, saving what we do not finish, and ignoring sale by dates because they are not expiration dates. Using methods like these we can successfully reduce food waste from one pound a day per person.

With all the food that is being wasted, it goes to the langfills, which in case creates a powerful greenhouse gas by the name of methane. The waste isn't just occuring when we throw it away after we're done with it. Waste happens before it even hits our dinner tables.

I thought this was very interesting. Author Christopher Koetke speaks about the imoprtance of food sustanability, most imoprtantly he mentions that countries around the world are teaching about the importance of food waste. Finally everyone has agreed that food sustainability is a big issue and we have to take action today for the future generations.

To help reduce food waste you could recycle your spare food and make different food dishes. Another, thing you could do is save your leftovers in a container where they are visible that way you can see the edible food you have. Remember it is still safe to use food past their expiration and "use by" date these dates refer to quality not safety. Lastly, you should shop for items you know you will use soon instead of items you do not need that way they don't go to waste.
