NSA's Spying On Metadata Violates Our Freedom of Association - 2 views

  •
Is it important to us that our government looks at our Metadata? The government work's hard to Prove that our privacy is safe however they take liberties when it comes to private Phone Communications. The information they gather is much larger then we think.
  •
If they "need" to look at our metadata it makes me wonder what they're doing with all our information.
  •
In this day and age this is to be expected, the government is all about control, and when it comes to phone calls or even the internet they will do their best to control these places. Not siding with the government Im just stating their poor reasonings for doing this.

This act is very important in order to keep your health privacy secure. Knowing that your medical information will be secure is very important for people who wish to keep their life private and keep themselves from medical insurance fraud.
  •
I once worked in a call center dealing with medical records and it was very reassuring to see how serious HIPAA is taken. It definitely made me feel safe and confident in my personal health information.
  •
I agree health privacy is very important. It is nice to see that HIPAA is doing its job and protecting the privacy of the people

Defunding Planned Parenthood Is the Opposite of "Pro-Life" - 1 views

  •
Planned Parenthood isn't just about abortions. Defunding Planned Parenthood doesn't just effect abortions as many Republicans and "pro-life" activist would like to think. Planned Parenthood provides birth control, breast exams, pap-smears, and sexual education classes. And get this, government funding isn't even used for abortions in the first place!
  •
Planned Parenthood offers more diverse health-care than just abortions. Planned Parenthood provides essential medical practices to women who could not otherwise afford them. The fight against this establishment is only scaling the top of this issue. This is not a fight against supporting abortion, this is a fight to keep women feeling safe with knowing they have a place to turn when they need medical assistance.

The real mental health issue behind gun violence - CNN.com - 1 views

  •
By focusing on certain categories of mental illness researchers say federal gun law overlooks those at greater risk of violence. The government believes that it is very important that they keep guns away from the mentally ill individuals in our society.
  •
Those with mental illness are shown to have a higher risk of acting out violent crimes (specifically with the use of a gun). However, this is not the case all of the time due to the fact that there are still an abundant amount of shootings each year where the criminal(s) behind the weapon do not have any mental illnesses. We should be looking into the psychological factors of the criminals behind the gun, but also doing more extensive background checks and setting stricter limitations on who is able to purchase/receive guns.

Fifteen Reasons You Should Own A Gun - 0 views

  •
As much as i feel the constitution is outdated and is failing and we should create a new version of it using modern ways of living and looking at the world, the second amendment is something that should stay. This article points out quite a few reasons on why we should keep our guns. Some of the arguments are strong but the one about Jesus was a little ridiculous. The biggest argument I can think of is, if you take the guns away, the law abiding citizens will hand them in leaving the criminals with them still and leaving everyone unarmed.

The security vs. privacy debate is already over, and privacy lost - 0 views

  •
As technology becomes more popular, we begin to lose our privacy. The internet is becoming harder to avoid, and personal lives are becoming more public. Websites track your use of the internet- where you go, what you do, etc. In some ways this can be beneficial, as people cannot hide who they are anymore. IRS scandals, disease outbreaks, companies abusing power; all at our fingertips. This has sparked the debate between what is more important: your privacy? or our nation's security?
  •
This article explains that there is basically no debate anymore over privacy vs security; privacy lost long ago. With the advent of the "information age" privacy largely died quietly and without much thought. Now that things like Google and Facebook exist, and we spit out private information without much thought, the debate is over.

This article basically provides facts and statistics of gun violence throughout the years. It breaks down the different gun violence over the years. The amount of people who own guns today continue to increase dramatically, especially due the recent mass shootings.
  •
Allegedly Japan, as a country, has unified their gun control. You would have to pass competency tests for mental stability as well as physical competency tests to qualify for a gun license, and even then the Japanese government has a hold of firearm production which can limit the output of firearms.

Connecticut's gun law linked to large homicide drop - CNN.com - 0 views

  •
In 1995, a permit-to-purchase handgun law went into effect in Connecticut, stating that people who want to buy a gun must apply for a license (or permit) with the local police, a process that involves a background check, as well as complete at least eight hours of gun safety training. Since this law, homicide has seen a reduction in that area but there is still more that needs to be done.
