Helping economics students 'keep it real' :: October 2009 :: News :: Mimas - 1 views

  •
This is one of two stories published from the Mimas Learning & Teaching Project I'm working on- about use of real data services in learning and teaching to assist with employability and a range of literacy skills for undergrad and taught post-grad students. I did the research and most of the writing of this story, but it was polished up admirably by the Web authoring team at Mimas.

This is one of two stories published from my other project that I'm working on- about use of real data services in learning and teaching to assist with employability for students. There will be more and fuller information about this coming later this year.

NTFS Project: Creating Future Proof Graduates: Transformative Learning Through Critical... - 3 views

  •
HEFCE funded project to create employability-enhancing resources for HE staff to help students identify and prepare for 'critical incidents' which, according to employers, epitomise the major problems that newly qualified graduates encounter when they start work in the 'real world'. Looks like they've taken an imaginative approach to communicating with students.

PwC Employabilty - 0 views

PricewaterhouseCoopers have designed some great resources for students (and potential applicants). These include interactive videos, a brochure and some reflective questions. The language they use is very accessible. A lot of the material is generic enough to use in many different contexts.

Employability skills, often beyond the curriculum of academic and technical achievement, are increasingly a deciding factor matching students to jobs.

The ECN SHEEN Sharing Netvibes paged has helped inspire Darren Jones at the University of Sussex Careers Service: this is his trial page using Netvibes for students using their careers service. It's interesting because it's divided into tabs for subject areas.

Darren sent us a nice Tweet complimenting us on our Netvibes page!

This is the second story related to employability I researched and co-wrote with Mimas- this one's on the use of live census data in human geography at undergrad level. There will be more and fuller information about this coming later this year.

This is a developing service which will show sound bites of student experiences. I think this will be a really useful resource for the Scottish Employability Netvibes page. It goes live in Jan 2010!!
