This article is about how important it is to articulate your role as a nurse. I love how they explain articulating your role as a nursing competency. I think this is a great article for this class as we learn what the APRN role is and how to articulate it to our inter professional teams. This article from the AACN provides a good summary of the history of the AGACNP role up to the development of the consensus model, and developments afterwards until 2011, when the article was published. It also provides advice to readers on how to react to the consensus model.

Great resource for information regarding patient's opinions towards seeing APRNs.

This observational study utilizes census data and geographic distribution of providers to illustrate current trends in distribution of providers, relative to uninsured patients and areas of limited access. Further, they discuss the policy changes aimed at bolstering access to primary care providers, specifically NP's, as a short term solution to a deficit in primary care providers. Additionally, the researchers explore distribution of APRNs, relative to scope of practice restrictiveness.

This article talks about how the use of acute care nurse practitioner helps hospitals deliver better care because the APRNs are able to draw from past experiences in order to provide the best care to their patients.

This is an interesting article that conducted a lit review to see how expanding the scope of practice for APRNs would affect health care delivery and costs in Ohio. Although it is specific to Ohio, the lit review they did highlights many benefits to full practice authority that could be generalized to any state.

This article discusses the history and development of the pediatric APRN role and how it has changed to fit the current needs of the pediatric population.

This article looks at the impact APRNs in the Emergency Department have on cost, quality of care, satisfaction and wait times. The study concludes that Emergency Nurse Practitioners have a positive influence on quality of care, satisfaction and wait times in the ER, but is inconclusive on their impact on cost.

This 2016 article provides a brief overview of progress made in expanding APRN scope of practice to utilize a practitioner's education to the fullest extent. Although the removal of barriers to scope of practice is progressing, there is still much work ahead. This article recommends that to meet our goals, we must encourage other HCPs, policy makers, etc. that investing in our profession, i.e. becoming stakeholders, is a necessity to optimize health care practice.

I found this research article enlightening on Physician's views and APRN's views on the APRN's role and scope of practice in the primary care setting. In 2010, the Institute of Medicine published an article that stated "advanced practice registered nurses should be able to practice to the full extent of their education and training." The link I posted givens results to a survey given randomly to Physicians and APRNs working in direct patient care on how they view they scope of practice of APRNs.

This article addresses how Iowa APRNs in a state-sanctioned task force identified barriers for practicing at the top of their licensure in a full practice authority state including defending the right to control the scope of nursing practice in court.

I found this article very interesting. It talks about the current challenges in midwifery in regards to legislation, reimbursement, physician restrictions, and many other restricting factors. It also discusses the challenges of the education required to become an APRN.

This article details the researchers' efforts to describe the ability of nurse practitioners to reduce health disparities. By reviewing the literature, the researchers were able to create a "Nurse Practitioner Health Disparities Model" that outlines the many factors that influence a NP's ability to reduce health disparities. Outside actors, such as policymakers and insurance companies, can also influence the ability of nurse practitioners to reduce health disparities. Thus, the model is a useful tool in promoting full practice for APRNs.
