    This study found that when CNMs operated autonomously there were more in a state per 10,000 live births, as well as more midwives present at births. Additionally these states saw lower rates of cesarean sections, preterm labor, and low birth weight. The article talks about the subsequent economic benefit of these lower rates o the healthcare system.
