HotChalk is a collaborative online resource for preK-12 teachers, students and parents. It provides an easy-to-use learning management system accessible by any Internet browser, a media-rich library of teacher-contributed lesson plans and digital content, including audio, video, textbook, and assessment content as well as online professional development for teachers.
I found this an interesting web application. Please Note: HotChalk's online tools and community content are free, but their premium content like NBC News video and McGraw-Hill Education's professional development courses require a paid subscription. They do give you a free trial. Another note: HotChalk covers all preK-12 subjects, including Math, Science, Music, Language Arts, Computers & Internet, Social Studies, Art and Physical Education. Their mission is to improve the lives of teachers.... I have to agree with that goal...
Neat application. Ability to upload music files and listen from anywhere. Also have the ability to share music, rate songs, and post music on web sites. How long until the music industry shuts this down?
MediaMaster allows you to upload your entire music collection and iTunes playlists and listen from anywhere. You can stream your music from any web browser, listen to your music at work, publish it on your web site or share it with others.
Pros: free service, ability to create playlists, rate songs, share music with others, and no limit to uploads.
Cons: slow streaming, not sure how long it will be free, legal issues!
Three years ago, I scanned over 250 photos into my families computer to create a photo mosaic for my parent's wedding aniversary. This Web 2.0 application would have been helpful.
It's free, but if you want the higher quality pictures, it will cost some money.
First of all thanks for visiting PicArtia.
Due to requests from our users, we would like to point out a few hints for having a better experience with PicArtia:
This site would be interesting to use in a geometry in high school or an art class to explore shapes, shades, and contrasting images. As a math teacher, this would be a creative approach to learning.
"Kim Komando" selected us as the "cool site of the day" on 5/9/2008:
This website could be used in a geometry class, or an art class. This could be one activity that you could easily relate to geometry content, perhaps replacing the age-old project of stellated dodecahedrons.
PicArtia is an online application that gives you the opportunity to create your own photo mosaics for free. You can use your own photos or download others from the web. PicArtia is free to use, however you can order high quality versions as well. HIgh quality prints start at $3.
Cons: Still in the works, will soon have the opportunity to create photo mosaics out of your own photos in Flickr/PhotoBucket or your hard drive, but not yet
With MagToo, you can create free image presentations known as "MagShows," to display on your blog or on social network profiles like Facebook or Myspace. You can create a MagShow that is a Slide Show or a Panorama Show, and MagToo will even 'auto-stitch' photos together to create your panoramic image. Add any music you want, or record voice narration.
Anytime an educator can bring television clips into the classroom, I think the students really can relate. In a math class, there are many references in prime time television. The CBS drama Numbers is most notable, but CSI, Game Shows, etc. make reference to math concepts that could be easy to incorporate into a lesson.
