Effective use of Technology in Education « Elevated Formation - 0 views

  • The questions in such exams tend to be multiple choice and not test understanding but an ability to match up keywords.
    • Bruce Vigneault

Unfortunately, this is how the state will test them - so they have to be prepared for this type of test dont they?
  • We are presenting the ideas in ways that mean the student has to do very little in the way of thinking to understand it.
    • Bruce Vigneault

Just another way to stand in front of the room and try to force feed students. They have 'do' to learn.
  • Using technology to create is by far the best use of technology in education.

As Classrooms Go Digital, Textbooks May Become History - NYTimes.com - 0 views

  • So digital textbooks could widen the gap between rich and poor.
    • Bruce Vigneault

This is true. In our district, about 7% of the students do not have home internet access. Most of these students live far from town/library and don't have transportation to get to the access points.
  • A large portion of our kids don’t have computers at home, and it would be way too costly to print out the digital textbooks
    • Bruce Vigneault

You wouldn't print them. Hard copy textbooks are already available. You would not need to buy a lot of them. Seems like it still would be cheaper in the long run. Especially, when you consider the cost of updating information.

Teaching College Math » Blog Archive » Technology Skills We Should Be Teachin... - 0 views

  •
If America wants to continue to be a world-leader, we can do it with a technology advantage - but only if we actually know how to leverage that technology to continue to be more productive. So, I began to write out a list of the tech skills that I think students should learn before they leave college. Ideally, these are skills that would be integrated throughout K-12 and college curricula.

It's Not About the Tools. It's About the Skills « Langwitches Blog - 21 views

  •
I usually try to explain and emphasize, that these skills are precisely what are being taught. We are not podcasting in order to teach Audacity nor Garageband. We are not recording students for the fun of using microphone, we are not blogging, so we can practice typing, we are not skyping for the purpose of using a webcam.

Glossopedia Home - 0 views

This site is designed especially with the young learner in mind with its age-appropriate content and emphasis on visual and auditory learning. Glossopedia is the kind of site that you can leave open for students to explore and find a fast fact of the day, find their favorite image, or video Glossopedia Categories Geography and Places Nature and the Environment Technology Animals Earth and Space People and Cultures Human Body Chemistry Natural Forces This site is simple and visually pleasing. The font size is great for young learners. Words are hyperlinked to an audio pronunciation that is a real person, speaking really slowly at first then more quickly, and finally the written meaning of the word. Images and photos have a print button prominently displayed.
