Photosynth - Use your camera to stitch the world. - 24 views

  •
Photosynth takes your photos, mashes them together and recreates a 3D scene out of them that anyone can view and move around in. Different than static photos and video, Photosynth allows you to explore details of places, objects, and events unlike any other media. You can't stop video, move around and zoom in to check out the smallest details, but with Photosynth you can. And you can't look at a photo gallery and immediately see the spatial relation between the photos, but with Photosynth you can.

GradeGuru, note sharing by students for students - 0 views

  •
This is backed by McGraw Hill -- I think it is their way of getting free info to create online texts....it's a place where students get paid to upload their notes (i.e. boiled down teacher lectures). A very clever stategy, but there is something about it that doesn't sit well.... I am wondering what ownership rights you give up when you upload notes? This would make an interesting blog post if explored more.

Google just released a major new update to Google Earth that now includes the rumored maps of the ocean floor. Google unveiled this update at an event at the California Academy of Sciences. After installing the latest version of Google Earth, you will be able to explore the ocean floor in the same way you browse the Earth's surface. Besides mapping the oceans, however, Google has also added three more interesting new features to Google Earth: easier access to historical imagery, the ability to record and narrate fly-through tours with the new 'touring' feature, and a 3D map of Mars.

Technology Review: Don't Blame the Internet - 0 views

  •
Last year, after the social-networking site MySpace found that its members included some 29,000 registered sex offenders, the nation's top state prosecutors demanded a technological fix, asking that the industry "explore and develop age and identity verification tools for social networking web sites." But a new study concludes that such technologies are unlikely to thwart anonymous predators and that the threat facing children online is no worse than it is in the real world.
