Learning Challenges of Online Learning Over the past few years, online learning has emerged as a developing alternative to traditional learning systems, thanks to expanding internet accessibility, affordability, and convenience. Who doesn't want to learn & study from the comfort of their home, right? Online teaching platforms make hundreds of new courses available at the fingertips and make learning more time & cost-efficient. However, virtual teaching and learning on a large scale took a new turn after the Covid-19 pandemic broke out last year. And now virtual education across schools & colleges has become a new normal.
Over 1.2 billion children were forced out of the traditional classroom learning environment in 186 countries due to the pandemic. About 90% of the countries shifted to online learning to continue education at different levels. More than 3 million students are now pursuing higher studies through full-scale online learning. In 2020, the Indian Government expanded e-learning in higher education and, as a response to the pandemic, permitted the top 100 Indian universities to start online classes by May 30. From the first week of April 2020, Indian schools also started virtual teaching. Due to lockdowns, even private tutors took resort to virtual teaching. According to a survey by The Wire, 45% of respondents were taking online private tuitions. But is virtual teaching & learning as easy as it seems? Not exactly. While learning through online teaching & learning platforms or doing online classes has its perks and comfort, there are many challenges that the learners face both initially and in the long run.
