This source addresses personal learning networks and connected learning environments. It describes connected learning as important because information is so widespread and accessible, and learning is now happening flexibly. The source also discusses connectivity and communities of practice.

This article discusses the idea of connected learning and its benefits. It discusses how the learner can be at the center of their learning. Although this article focuses of incorporating connected learning to teaching practices, it can also be applied to gain a better understanding of forming personal learning networks to enhance ones professional growth.

I love the term "connected learning." I can't imagine learning in isolation. I have to take what I am reading and share it out on Twitter, I want to get the interaction of others to enrich and enhance what I am learning. Learning systems is a good way to put it. You have a system in place that involves connecting with others.

This blog post takes a detailed look at connectivism and breaks down the impact the theory has on learning. The author notes the change in thinking and learning and how the brain is being rewired because of technology.

I simply enjoy how easy of a read this source is. Articles are so boring and make it hard for me to concentrate while I'm reading and this sources is still giving valuable information, but offers an easy to read layout and language.

This is a blog entry, which can make me skeptical of the quality of the information. With digital use, our brain is rewired. If this isn't reason enough that we should not be teaching like it is 1980, I don't know what is.

This post explains how educators are becoming more sophisticated in their social media use which is leading to more shared information outside of the traditional conference or classroom.

This was an interesting read. I also find that many conferences are hard to attend due to funding. I like how many educational professionals are finding ways to connect using their PLNs through Twitter to participate in edchats. Social media has made the ability to connect with others in your field so much easier and cheaper. It also demonstrates the point how learning and professional development are becoming more self-directed to meet each educator's needs. Thanks for sharing!

At my district professional development day this August, there was a session title Twitter for Teachers. While my district is not prepared to get rid of traditional PD, they can see the value in PLNs that allow for continuous professional growth. I think this article provides a great explanation of the transition from traditional PD and conferences to a digital world. The author also notes, however, that personalized learning could lead to "one-sided" information. I think that is why it may be important for districts to educate their teachers on PLNs to hopefully start them in the right direction.

This blog post appears to be a reflection on what the author learned during her first week in the MOOC offered by Siemens and Downes on Connectivism in 2008! I like that the author, having tackled the assigned first-week readings for the MOOC, still finds connectivism to be ambiguous. This makes me feel a little less alone, as it reflects my own opaque understanding of the theory!

Clearly makes blog posts, articles and webpages clean and easy to read. Save them to Evernote to read them anywhere.

This is Micosofts answer to the IPAD. Our school demanded that IT purchase the new IPAD with out invesitgating all possible solutions that are out there. I personally think that the Kindle is still the best reader out there. Sorry if I am off topic a bit but thought that this would be a good thing to post for us teckies....

Trying to figure out this Diigo thing... This is a website by a guy named Dan Meyer who writes on math education. In particular, I'd recommend checking out his "Three Acts" posts.

Dan is an amazing individual! I had the pleasure of meeting him last April. We had a good chat and he seemed genuinely interested in what I had to say.

This is a great post that makes the connection between social learning theories and cooperative learning. The author asserts that using connectivism teachers can motivate their students. I particularly liked how the focus was primarily on mathematics classrooms.

This resource is an image that shows the comparison between professional development for teachers in the past and currently through the use of profession learning networks.

I love this as I am a very visual learner. A great graphic - focus on the support, learn, engage and measure, and as a teacher who works in an international school the concept of PD is truly global. Excellent. Thanks Alexis -PLN buddy.

Solid graphic and one that actually focuses on teachers. A lot of the resources I found used businesses or government bodies as examples, but this is obviously more pertinent. Nice find.

This article is a guest post by a student who describes her PLN. It is an interesting self reflection about how this student realized she had a PLN without ever actively creating it. The article goes on to discuss how she developed her PLN and the major pieces that are in it.

I love that you included a student's perspective on PLN. I particularly liked her perspective on Internet Safety. My favorite quote is one we should all remember, "Common sense is a valuable thing".

Bryan, I really appreciate this article. Maybe because I can identify with Conner Wood's journey into blogging and PLNs. His revelation of a group of people he can trust thousands of miles apart connected by the Internet and his desire to meet them resonates with me. Many times I have wanted to meet my own cohorts. Wood's reflection on the quality of his selection of progressive educators is not lost on me either. His desire to opening your PLN to a variety of fields mirrors my own. "One can have a network of the top people in one's own field, but if one cannot talk to those people about anything else, what is the point?" Pinging your PLN for the "personal" as well as "learning" seems a recurring theme.

I thought this would be a great resource to post. It is a network of personal learning networks form teachers and community members. It is my new go to place to find personal learning network resources.

I hope its ok to post a video about Communities of Practice because this is a great video that demonstrates how a community of practice can help people learn from each other. If I had to understand what a CoP is, this short 3 minute video is all you need. Take a watch!
