    The focus of this article is that the foundation of CoPs and learning is social participation. Various scenarios are discussed where CoPs are formed, even informally, like students on a playground. These groups are illustrated as "shared histories of learning" where the information is handed down from generation to generation. Inherent practices enable the evolving membership to continue to develop.

    This article from Minnesota State University talks about the half life of information and how today information is growing and doubling at such a fast rate that no one can be as knowledgeable in there field as they were 50 years ago. By using connectivity it allows people to better keep up in there knowledge field.

    This is a really interesting article. I never thought about it, but it is a compelling notion that one person cannot be an expert at anything any longer, simply because everyone can be an expert with a device in their hands.

    This article gives you the standard overview of connectivism; however, the point about knowledge growing as more nodes are established is a great point. I would agree with Chris Denny. Can anyone (sometimes even the teacher) be the expert any longer without prescribing to connectivist theory?

    A mostly visual representation to explore connectivism as it occurs through an open learning system. Points brought up include learners making meaningful choices while exploring their personal interest in order to guide learning. And as participants engage in making connections, a natural result will be content development and eventually those more experienced students becoming mentors.

    Great video, especially for those of us visual learners.

    I have to critique this video on two levels. First the video itself seemed more an exercise in using a non linear editor than in telling a story of communicating an idea. The message was lost in the many irrelevant images used by the authors of the video. Secondly it offed a minimal look at what connectivism is and the current thinking surrounding the use of connectivism as a learning theory. We need to hold electronic media to the same academic rigor used for scholarly peer review works. The authors of the video should have understood this as it was produced for a graduate level class. We as consumers of media need to be able to filter appropriate information for a given task at hand, and although alternatives to print media are desirable in education, the video was not able to address the theory level of connectivism effectively.

    Great video that has a section about how our students are "different" than when we were in school. "They [Students] expect to learn from technology because that is what they are used to." As soon as ALL teachers realize and accept this fact, then we as teachers can be one step closer to helping our students achieve their FULL potential!

    I like the idea of learners making meaningful choices. Anything that can guide students to make effective and relevant connections is a great resource. I also think teachers have a lot to learn about the way our students learn these days. The idea that students actually need to be a force in their own learning and that they expect instant gratification are concepts I have been seeing more frequently in my own classroom. Great resource!

    This article addresses the fact that learners have multiple identities as they cross into their various communities (work, school, home, church) but must maintain a strong sense of self within each community. This article briefly discusses the impact of situational cognition on education. They suggest that if learning is truly acquired by doing, then educational institutions must adapt and offer opportunities to hands-on, real-world experience.

    In this article, Duke, Harper, and Johnston extend the explanation of connectivism penned by George Siemens and Stephen Downes. Their argument states that connectivism, even though it is a critical tool that should be used in the learning process in order to bridge the gap that exists between behaviorism, cognitivism, and constructivism in the 21st century, it is not a learning theory that can stand on its own.

    The section, "Why Connectivism is a new learning theory for a digital age," provided a great explanation of how learning has changed in the last several years, and therefor education as well. The explanation that, "concepts can be viewed much like a mind map... rather than as a linear progression of ideas" really stuck out to me. I tend to be a linear thinker and my school struggles with very traditional knowledge dissemination. Thinking about concepts in this way is giving me a better idea of Connectivism.

This line is the central philosophy in this article that argues about the importance of online educational and informational fields in the connection of information. One interesting piece that is identified is in reference to schools and connectivism. The author illustrates that simply putting technology into the hands of students to access the web will not produce learning. As many of us have talked about in the EdTech program, simply using e-learning does not produce learning. However, the theory of connectivism argues that it can strengthen information and learning while also producing areas for students to collaborate and learn later on.

The teacher creates an account, then creates a digital bulletin board that only requires web access via a link. Links can be emailed or posted in Google Classroom. Students can post using the link without signing in, which makes it easy to use. This tool can be used for brainstorming, formative assessment, collaboration, or an exit ticket.

    I'm looking forward to try this site. You can create an account for free and then create bulletin boards that the teacher, student or class can use to collect pictures, text, even videos. Students can use this to create reports about topics. Teachers can create class discussion which can include media. Teachers can also use this as a place to turn in assignments. There are many possibilities.
