The Pennsylvania Department of Education was awarded a Teacher Quality Enhancement Grant. This Grant allowed several Intermediate Units to offer an Integrating Technology into Core Curriculum Skills course to teachers. Excellent video examples in a variety of subject.

The other state was Nevada, and it unveiled new requirements for crypto ATM owners requesting them to get a transmission license. Business owners would have to pay as much as $10,000 for the first location granted by the license. The cost of every additional kiosk needs an extra $5,000. On the whole, bond requirements must not be higher than $250,000 in total.

This article is about Mozilla Open Badges. These badges are encoded with data about how they were earned and offer a secure way to recognize the achievements of individuals. This is a free system to use and anyone can create and grant their own custom badges. From a school standpoint this becomes interesting to me since it gives students and community stakeholders an opportunity to show that an individual has mastered skills that are taught outside of school.

Project K-Nect is designed to create a supplemental resource for secondary at-risk students to focus on increasing their math skills through a common and popular technology - mobile smartphones.

In North Carolina, about 100 ninth-grade students in four schools in North Carolina have been issued smartphones for use in their math classes. They use the phones to network among themselves on problems, receive instruction from teachers, play math-improving games, or watch an animation showing the problem being solved.

Through a grant from a smartphone maker, students were given devices that would allow them to contact other students and tutors about math problems when not at school. It also gave them access to materials for class that they otherwise would not have had away from school. While this wouldn't be applicable in all schools, the social networking aspect of the program helped students better manage their personal learning experience.

This article discusses the use of communities of practice for university teachers as the demand for research increases. Cites how many professors got into teaching to teach, not to do research, and are either leaving the profession or joining communities of practice to develop research skills and get help to meet the research demands. The bottom of page 972 talks about the challenges for those who are not well trained in research. The bottom of 973 talks about what it takes to change a teaching culture to a research culture. 979 has a useful table on what it looks like for education faculties to build their research capability.

I believe that a lot of individuals enter the university teaching profession thinking they are only going to teach! So many of my professor friends have found that they have to write grants and build in their yearly incomes just to stay employed! Thanks for sharing!

This is a very interesting read for everyone affected by the immediate and retroactive changes to AECT. All students must now align their MET portfolio to the new standards! This examines whether the college catalog and language therein constitute a legally binding contract between college and student. Categorizes catalog litigation by cases involving dismissal, granting of degrees, tuition, admission, and course offerings. The courts appear to agree that the student-college relationship is contractual in nature and that the relevant contractual terms are set forth in the catalogs. (202 references) (MLH)

This is a faculty teaching guide produced by College STAR (Supporting Transition, Access, and Retention). College STAR was a grant-funded project dedicated to providing materials to help college campuses be more welcoming and attentive to the needs of a wider variety of college student learners. This guide is specifically written from a UDL (Universal Design for Learning) standpoint, which means that the resources provided here will be especially accessible for students with differing needs.

I'm sure everyone is familiar with this site, but I think we may sometimes take that fact for granted as Edutopia is a great site to find information, strategies, address a problem or get idea on how to make things work better. The information is presented in an easy to understand way that makes it especially helpful when you are venturing into unknown waters.

I always appreciate the reminder that this site exists. It is wonderful, full of content, and a great source of information!

I always find myself starting with this website when asked to research. I like the articles I find here because they are relatively short and to-the-point. Also, the research is current and valid. Edutopia is a great start and resource for fresh information in education.

I was most interested in this website in section 5.4.9, where the author details the strengths and weaknesses of MOOCs, specifically the weaknesses. MOOCs have high registration numbers, but only a small number actually finish the course. They are expensive to produce and they are used mostly by those with higher education levels. Higher levels of learning are difficult to assess and so "credit" becomes difficult or impossible to grant. Copyright issues can also be a problem.

I found myself spending most of my time reading the strengths and weakness of MOOCs located at the end of the article. I found several articles that listed only the strengths, or only the weaknesses. I appreciated this article because it examined both.
