This location has been developed by the University of Cincinnati and provides virtual tours of the HMS Beagle as well as the Galapagos Islands. Visitors can watch a couple of videos, read pages from Darwin's 'Origin of Species', row to some of the islands, and even ride a giant tortoise. Because most of us will not be fortunate enough to have an opportunity to ever visit the islands, this provides a fun alternative.
This is actually a part of UC's Second Life Virtual Campus. By going to the main campus, you will walk through what appears to be a replica of the actual campus. There are lots of places for meetings and to find information.

Usually people would imagine the military using virtual worlds for combat training, not to treat service members suffering with PTSD. This site from PBS.org highlights the military's efforts to help individuals suffering from PTSD by utilizing what they call virtual reality therapy. I found this incredibly interesting. I know this is not necessarily k12 education related, but I wanted to share this anyhow.
