An effective (EASY!!!) technique to superimpose an old image in front of that same scene today. VERY effective way of contrasting "then and now". Really evocative examples. Fun captions. (Just had to share ... :)

Great iphone or ipad app for narrating a picture you've just taken. Kids could take multiple pictures and narrate or take notes on each shot as they go.

Free Apps for Kids with Mobile Learning Devices, like ipads - 1 views

  •
Great resource for kids with access to mobile learning devices like ipads. There are links and descriptions to 17 free apps. The teacher who has created this blog teaches young English language learners between 5 to 10 years old so the apps range from simple animated characters reading stories to kids using ipads to take pictures and use fotobabble to narrate their shot. Lyssa you might be able to use some links on this site since you just got the ipads for your room.

Tools for Digital Storytelling - 1 views

I have used this website before for my classes, and I was actually willing to pay in order to use it! You can create online comic books, and actually add audio and animation to your pages. My 6th grade students were absolutely enthralled with this when I used it for mythology projects.

A lot of good resources are found in this article from freetech4teachers.com. One that stuck out was JayCut, a FREE video editing software found online. There are also resources that help teachers with the digital story process.

Timeline of anything..with help from friends or family - 0 views

This website would be a great tool for my classroom in the beginnning of the year. The tool offers the ability to create an online timeline with pictures and words. What is special about it is your friends and family can access it and, through email, can add their own comments and pictures. You end up having a timeline that not only you created, but everyone in your life created and added onto. Another plus is it will email out to friends if you have an event in your life that is coming up....like the birth of a child. I see this working in my classroom with anything from a student's beginning of the year timeline to a timeline of the life of a person they are doing a biography on.I loved this website!!

Link to Digital Storytelling for young kids - 0 views

This was on a blog that Greg posted earlier this month. I watched the tutorial and it seems very simple to implement in the classroom. I think it would be great to make stories and record the kids' voices. For third grade, it might be neat to do a book on mixed up fairytales along with illustrations or add some pizzazz to a biography. Pros: Seems very simple to upload images and to use the program. It seems to be very kid friendly. To implement in the classroom, you would definitely need an extra pair of hands.

Microsoft Blog~Digital Storytelling Tools - 0 views

This is a great resource! This blog has a free PDF file that shows digital storytelling "step-by-step". There are links to kid created digital stories and lots of different ways to use digital storytelling in the classroom. In particular, there was a link that showed how a class used Flat Stanley to tell a digital story. The example was okay, but gave me some great ideas for classroom use. Not only could you use for Flat Stanley, but digital storytelling could add another dimension to penpals. The guide shows how you can use powerpoint, photos story and live movie maker to make digital story products. The guide also reinforces how digital storytelling can be tied to standards and how it can be beneficial to all students. It only shows microsoft products, but is full of great links and ideas in both the PDF guide and blog.
