I had a lot of tags which I had imported from Delicious, so at first my classification system appeared overwhelming to me. Delicious has a way of bundling tags, but Diigo uses lists, so it took me a while to organize my sites. I ended up with several categories, some of which only have a few tags at this point (such as watersheds), others of which have many tags (such as lesson prep). I think that as I use Diigo that I will gain confidence in organizing my work. I tried to lump items together that made sense to me, but may find I have to move things around if I run into issues. So far I like Diigo and am very excited about the highlighter and sticky note function; what a great way to make notes on sites as I prepare my lessons.

Your classification scheme sounds like it will work well for you. I thought about grouping by content but because I teach different levels of math couldn't make it work.

    Patty,

I'm with you on classifying based on content. Content is the deepest in meaning for me. I can separate more specific applications from the type of content. As far as some of the words used for tags, I see us having some similarites, but there will be significant differences too. For instance, will you use, "visualaids," as a tag? Or will you tag an item as a specific type of visual aid without using the tag, "visualaid?" From what I've seen so far, a website with animations will also have images other visual aids as well. So until I have an abundance of various visual aids for a subject like, "plate tectonics," I will us visualaids as my tag. In the future I may take a website with various visual aids and post a sticky note to the specific type of visual aid and indicate what I'm using it for.

    Patty,
I am completing the required make a comment on a member's list so here it goes. We have a similar thread in our classifications in professional development. I began my classification with my most often taught subjects (like grade 9 science). We have very similar topics to teach to our students (like DNA). It will be nice to look over your collected sites for this topic as I do not have many (here's to hoping you do!) I also like that you seem to know right away. I have revised mine twice and I've had to increase the number of lists I originally started with. I was wondering how your program of studies is organized. It is this organization that forces me to have my subjects as lists and individual units (inside each subject) as sections.
