The deepest, most meaningful organizational level for me is the overall subjects within my courses. Geology (withing Earth Science) I'm thinking is my first level. Second would be a specific topic, like, Plate Tectonics or Interior Layers. Third would be the classroom use, like, visual aids, lessons, or tutorials. My organization in delicious was very shallow for me as I'm not going to think first about the type of essential element or instructional method. How are the rest of you feeling about that?

    Hi Jeremy,
I like how you are organizing your work. Is there a way to make "levels" in diigo? I couldn't really figure it out (kinda like folders within folders?).

I'm not sure what you meant by your organization in delicious. Are you saying you are not incorporating essential elements and instructional methods in your classification scheme? If so, I agree with you since that is not how I organize by nature. I'm more of a topic person, with the topic being driven by my curriculum. I really feel like I need to go back in and look at each of my bookmarks to see if I need to add additional tags to them (to make them easier to find).

    Hey Patty,

The levels as far as I see are indicated by the tags you make. I have 4 public lists. Each list will house my bookmarks. When I edit a bookmark's tag, I can assign it to a specific list. I will actually edit the tag, I will use titles of my levels. For example, I named a recent tag to be in the Earth Science List as...
    platetectonics assessment

As I gather more of those types of bookmarks, I will tag them the same so all of the plate tectonics assessment sites are together. As I gather more, I would have to add a level to the tag to separate some of them out even more.

That is my understanding of the system so far. I haven't found info on making "folders," for all of my levels as I have done with My Favorites. From a personal standpoint, there is no difference from My Favorites to Diigo. From a collaborative standpoint...WOW!

Delicious was a mess for me. Subject matter drives my organization from the start.

It sounds like we did the same thing with regards to our classification system. This is pretty cool to form a group; guess we can tap into other people's bookmarks which may make our job even easier.

    Hi again,
We are supposed to comment on similarites and differences b/n our classification systems. Next, we all need to agree on a set of main classes (tags, I guess?) to build a community system of tagging.
Similiarities: like you, I classified by content/subject taught (I think we all did). Differences: I put generic teacher prep items in a different class, as opposed to placing them in a hierarchy like you did.

Ideas for shared classes: how about professional development as one? teacher tools as another (sites for rubrics, ect). We all teach different types/levels of sciences/math. Can you think of any overlapping tags for content?
  • Jeremy Rellinger

currentevents or sciencenews as a tag could provide overlap among subjects. These would be general science news sites with several specific topics within, obviously.

Well following Jonathan's example of making sections within a list, I have done so with my earth science list. Feel free to check it out.

    Jeremy,

I've already had the opportunity to read your review for my classification system and so it is with a "tainted" view I now complete a review of yours. Clearly, i think we share organizing our sciences with main topics / areas in order to "go and get them" when needed (when the time comes to teach that topic). For this assignment that is were the similarity ends. You chose to use the tags as a method of organizing different levels within the subject content / teaching resources. In retropect, this was a very clever way of organization. Well done. I have since revised my classification system to include other possibilities for lists. I had been trying to organize these same / similar levels using the lists / sections and never realized the key to completing a sound classification system and help unify the group would be to establish (or at least) clarify the tags given to each bookmark. My tags will now use shallow to deep terms / groups to help facilitate their use.
