How to Use Ted Ed to Create a Flipped Classroom - 3 views

  •
A widely preferred technique in flipped classrooms is to provide learners with short video lectures before the class time. The videos can be in the form of screen captures, webcam recordings of the lecturer, or in more professional setting, recordings of the lecturer in a real classroom setting. Here in this video, you can see an example of such a video in which a lecturer introduces how to use TED Ed, a popular tool for flipped classrooms.

Computers 'do not improve' pupil results, says OECD - BBC News - 1 views

  •
Investing heavily in school computers and classroom technology does not improve pupils' performance, says a global study from the OECD. The think tank says frequent use of computers in schools is more likely to be associated with lower results. The OECD's education director Andreas Schleicher says school technology had raised "too many false hopes".

I think the report does not show that technology is useless, but shows that we still need enourmous work on learning and teaching effective use of it. Here is another piece of news showing many teachers use technology for teacher-centered, traditional education. It brought my mind the concept of "teacher effect" that we talked in the class. " Why Ed Tech Is Not Transforming How Teachers Teach" http://www.edweek.org/ew/articles/2015/06/11/why-ed-tech-is-not-transforming-how.html?cmp=ew-tc15-eml&utm_content=buffer3067c&utm_medium=social&utm_source=twitter.com&utm_campaign=buffer

Meet The Classroom Of The Future - 3 views

  •
"The classroom of the future probably won't be led by a robot with arms and legs, but it may be guided by a digital brain." This article seems to be pretty much related to our in-class discussion today. P.S. I have come across this while browsing Twitter via the hashtag #engchat. Thanks for the hashtag list guys!

How Competency-Based Courses Are Changing the Education Game - 3 views

  •
When Southern New Hampshire University President Paul LeBlanc stepped onto the stage at Campus Tech 2015 in July, he painted a bright picture of competency-based higher ed. "Today, 500 institutions are moving to competency-based education, and they are not-for-profit," he said. "There's a lot of opportunity." LeBlanc certainly had that right.

6 Emerging Education Technologies Infographic - e-Learning Infographics - 0 views

  •
The 2013 Horizon Report identified and outlined 6 new emerging education technologies that are expected to be integrated into the classroom. From the 6 Emerging Education Technologies, some of them will be discussed in EDS 536. But I especially like 3D printing and its abilities. İt is actually used in Higher education in design departments now but seeing it to be used in K12 environment will be interesting.

TPACK Game - 1 views

  •
Hey! I think we should certainly play this game in our EDS-536 lesson. It would let us think creatively about how to apply TPACK into practice :)
  •
It's definitely an enjoyable game for us to grasp the fundamentals of TPACK. I'd like to try it, indeed :)
  •
Surprise of this week is the game. Last week, we did not have enough time to play it. Be prepared for the game. :D
