Effects of Technology on Classrooms and Students - 1 views

  • The teacher's role changes as well. The teacher is no longer the center of attention as the dispenser of information, but rather plays the role of facilitator, setting project goals and providing guidelines and resources, moving from student to student or group to group, providing suggestions and support for student activity.

  • Students, even at the elementary school level, are able to acquire an impressive level of skill with a broad range of computer software

Our students are already technologically literate at a young age, so why wait in implementing technology? It will only facilitate their learning and help your stuents achieve more
  • But even when each student has a computer, teachers note an increased frequency of students helping each other.

The classroom dynamic will definately be improved by using computers in the classroom, as the energy and moral of the class will be way up

  • It is possible for students to get so caught up in issues such as type font or audio clips that they pay less attention to the substantive content of their product

A potential downfall, but I believe the benefits far outweigh the potential harm
  • When students are using technology as a tool or a support for communicating with others, they are in an active role rather than the passive role of recipient of information transmitted by a teacher, textbook, or broadcast. The student is actively making choices about how to generate, obtain, manipulate, or display information. Technology use allows many more students to be actively thinking about information, making choices, and executing skills than is typical in teacher-led lessons. Moreover, when technology is used as a tool to support students in performing authentic tasks, the students are in the position of defining their goals, making design decisions, and evaluating their progress.

I hope people can see this
  • Teachers for the observed classes and activities at the case study sites were nearly unanimous also in reporting that students were able to handle more complex assignments and do more with higher-order skills (see examples) because of the supports and capabilities provided by technology.

      interesting
  • Collaboration is fostered for obvious reasons when students are assigned to work in pairs or small groups for work at a limited number of computers.

The U.S. Department of Education announced today $11.5 million in grants to help train educators to improve services and results for children with disabilities. The Special Education--Personnel Development to Improve Services and Results for Children with Disabilities Program provides funds that help address state-identified needs for highly qualified personnel in special education, related services, early intervention, and regular education programs that serve children with disabilities. "Students with disabilities deserve the same world-class education as their non-disabled peers," said U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan. "These grants will move us closer to that goal by giving special educators valuable training." Funding will help train educators in such areas as: early intervention, early childhood; low-incidence disabilities; related services, speech/language and adapted physical education and secondary/transition services.

Using Technology in the Early Childhood Classroom - 0 views

  • Modern technologies are very powerful because they rely on one of the most powerful genetic biases we do have — the preference for visually presented information. The human brain has a tremendous bias for visually presented information. Television, movies, videos, and most computer programs are very visually oriented and therefore attract and maintain the attention of young children. The problem with this is that many of the modern technologies are very passive. Because of this they do not provide children with the quality and quantity of crucial emotional, social, cognitive, or physical experiences they require when they are young. The developing child requires the right combination of these experiences at the right times during development in order to develop optimally. This cannot happen if the child is sitting for hours passively watching television.

This was my favorite site when I was a child to play math games on. I loved when teachers gave us free time during computer class and I could play and solve math problems. But this website also gives a lot of resources for teachers to use.

After reading the note that was already on this page I do have to agree that there is a lot of information but it can be a bit confusing. Sometimes theres too much and it's hard to find directly what you're looking for. But it seems to still have a lot of good resources for students.
