The Children in Room E4 -- "Wide Response to Educational Plight of Mexican Immigrants" - 18 views

I definitely agree with April's comment. I think that the idea to reduce the number of immigrants (legal and illegal) based on poor academic achievement is horrible. Judy W., a reader from Maryland...

Good sources. I used our book as well to help with my paper and found an interesting article to tie back to some of the unequal opportunity it discusses in the book. My topic geared toward a broad ...

Food Fight: Web Watch - 1 views

When we first heard the term "Food Revolution," we weren't exactly sure what that meant. Did a lazy Susan suddenly start spinning out of control? Was ketchup attempting a hostile takeover to dethrone salsa as top condiment? But then, with world-renowned chef and best-selling author Jamie Oliver's name attached, we knew it was going to be all about "good food." Check out Jamie Oliver's: FOOD REVOLUTION http://abc.go.com/shows/jamie-olivers-food-revolution/about-the-show

What's Going On? A Look at Education in Hartford - 2 views

  •
This video is actually part one of a series of videos regarding the city of Hartford and public education. What is so interesting about these videos is that students rather than reporters, lawyers, politicians, etc. are actually interviewing various members of the Hartford Board of Education as well as Hartford residents with a focus on what they ultimately think about the level and quality of education in the metro part of Hartford. I chose to share this video because I think that it accurately depicts some of the central issues that were presented in Susan Eaton's "The Children in Room E4." When you watch this video (and the four other videos that accompany this video), keep this quote in mind and think about how this might apply to the issues covered in the video (in particular, the distribution of funds and assistance to the four districts within Hartford): "The achievement gap remained, but the good numbers inspired hope, not despair. To discern the differences between a school like Simpson-Waverly and one like Malborough required a closer, honest observation. Look carefully, and the numerical illusion of equity collapsed," (Eaton 268).~ Pay close attention to the inerviews in part two of this series in order to get a glimpse of both sides to the issue.~
