This article talks about a school in Lakewood Ranch, where they put the kids on computers in kindergarten. The students are much more technological capable than I am!

From the introduction, "A Finneytown High science teacher and her students have become a research experiment into how the use of Net books and Internet-oriented assignments can impact learning for students of various capabilities." I strongly believe in using Netbooks in place of textbooks for students.

A very short article and not exactly related to several of the chapters but it is important. The school district is moving resources that will help teachers and parents collaborate for the students' educations. The resource, AutismPro, allows teachers to share progress with other teachers and the parents. From the article, "RCPS said its teachers and parents update their Web-based AutismPro files with new data on a weekly basis using the built-in collaborative tools. And all service providers update their case files monthly, allowing all parties involved to remain current with data and developments."

Hmm, interesting article. This article talks about using video games for 30 minutes a day to help failing students pass the TAK. The teachers said that the results were remarkable and the students were becoming successful in the game and understanding of math. They even wanted to learn math again. When the students were asked about the game, 86% said that it helped them understand concepts of math better.

The article talks about a proposed US budget and Obama wants to eliminate the EETT budget down to zero dollars. Now, if this passes, I am afraid that teachers and schools will be forced to pay their own ways to meet the technology standards without the aid of the federal government. Teachers will soon be expected to perform miracles, get your ticket early for the best seat. (/sarcasm)

An older article but the idea is still sound. This supports my idea that games must be introduced into the classroom. When the classroom is all work and no play, the students are not motivated to learn. If games are incorporated in an educational context and the student is given a key role, the student becomes highly motivated and invests huge amounts of time and energy because games require comprehension and mastery before advancing.

Sound a bit like science-fiction but this can be a tool that allows students better understand material by performing hands-on tasks to cement the content. Likely to be by higher class schools in the future.

Distant Learning is becoming increasing popular technological tool for educators. It allows them to reach more students and to diversify the classroom atmosphere.

GIves us all an idea on how much money is being put into educational technology. Also shows that even respectable organizations like NASA feel that technology can enhance the learning experience.
