What it is: Our Little Earth is a great international online newspaper for kids.  It is delivered every two weeks directly to email and best of all, it is free!  Past editions of Our Little Earth can be found on the site for students to read and explore.  Each issue helps students stay informed about what current events are happening in the world around them.  Every edition has a map showing students where the news came from for the issue.  The articles are easy for students to read and do a great job of offering enough background information so that students can make connections to the text and better understand it.

It’s simply harnessing the power of technology to leverage your instruction. It’s incorporating technology in your teaching practice to boost student engagement and motivation.

My own children, both still not yet in high school, are media omnivores. They will watch broadcast TV from Comcast, they will view YouTube videos, they enjoy Netflix, they watch iTunes movies using the AppleTV box, and they still watch a DVD or two while we roadtrip somewhere. No single solution exists that satisfies everyone and it's awfully nice to have a variety of choices.

You still need to plan the objectives of the lesson, but you can leave the activity unplanned. Start the lesson with a discussion  about the goals and objectives you want students to be working towards that day. Then, see where the conversation leads you!

Allow students to share their creativity by working on open-ended and mostly unstructured work. This can really help to target different learning types, as each student can choose what works best for them. Some may work in small groups, while others choose to work alone. At the end, each student or group should share their creation with the class. This makes for interesting presentations as the class is treated to a variety of skits, stories, newscast videos, or informational posters. The sky (and student imagination) should be the limit!

The use of technology in the classroom is becoming more mainstream than ever

Aprender a analizarlo, a comprenderlo e investigarlo nos permite afirmar nuestra identidad o sentir la necesidad de modificarla. El estudio de la Historia proporciona el acceso a conocimientos y la posibilidad de cuestionarlos.

Entender que la Historia no es un objeto científico sino cultural es el primer paso que un alumno debe dar para dejar de percibir a la disciplina como algo ajeno a su realidad. Las preguntas que el pasado despierta en cada individuo pueden ser personales, pero los pasados comunes generan preguntas comunes. Recuperar esta interacción entre la Historia y la persona es quizás una de las tareas más difíciles en un colegio.
